let's hope it gets resolved as soon as possible JohnHC, I hate reading these things, it seems that the "patient" is to blame, there would need to be a law from the authorities, when you undergo such an operation, it should be the doctor and the manufacturing company eager to find a solution

My only issue with Hakky is he appears to be a Coloplast person vs me being AMS. But it's in the right direction though.

Someone posted recently that Dr. Hakky's self pay is around $22K, are you sure it's $30K?

I talked with the Boston Scientific rep who was at both my surgeries, she works with Dr Hakky and others in the Atlanta area and Dr Hakky does do both devices but she said you need to tell him you want the AMS device upfront. And no not 100% sure what he would charge, I've read anywhere from 24k to 30k so I just told my HR the 30k high end because I've read where it would of course depend on what all he needs to while in there, and the price should be cheaper since Boston Scientific is supposed to be supplying the device free under warranty. I let my HR know all of that, but that I wouldn't have a close figure unless I go have a consult with him for him to see and suggest a course of action, and that I haven't gone to him to see since I couldn't see paying him about $400 for a consult to only tell me yeah you need to have it replaced and here's the figure you can't afford. But I'm hoping I get news soon, with the broker involved and our open enrollment in a month or so, maybe that'll motivate them to action...

But honestly what helped in my case is the fact that insurance records and stores all the calls. I was able to find out the day and time I called by looking it up in my call logs for my cell phone and providing that information along with the info from my Dr and Hospital saying they wouldn't have done the surgery without being assured it was going to be paid. When they pulled the logs and found out that yes I was told surgery and device were covered not only before the first surgery, but also before the revision insurance knew they would have to pay it.

So my recommendation is, anytime you deal with insurance if you can record it do so with a time stamp if possible, but at the very least write down the date and time, name of person or person's you talk to, and generally what was said. That way you can have a paper trail to go back to. Lord knows after doing a Google search on UMR I'm very surprised that they pay any claims for anything done, they are horrific in the reviews....
