Re: Implant 3 days ago, Dr Eid, scrotum VERY swollen
Sorry to hear of your problem. I did not have issues with swelling with Eid or pain at the reservoir, I iced a lot Friday, Saturday and Sunday before my Monday appointment to remove the catheter. My reservoir is placed high in my abdomen at belly button level to one side. I agree the office/Dr Eid can be a bit chaotic, but I found I just keep asking questions, to engage the staff and Eid and get my concerns addressed. Feel better!

I followed the icing protocol, was worried penis wasn’t pointing straight up as it was supposed to, texted Eid who responded and said that it was indeed pointing up and held in place by the catheter. Then, in the middle of the night, last night, and this morning I had very bad pain in the area where the reservoir is. Dr. Eid’s protocol is you go in day three with the goal of activating and then getting the hot baths where you start to cycle.
This is the first I'm hearing of Eid not being ultra meticulous with his patients. I wonder whether it due to his advanced age. I know he has had to take time off due to sickness recently. Does make me wonder what else has diminished in him due to his old age.
You mention that your surgery was scheduled in November 2024 but your surgeon became sick. Was that also Eid?
I wish you a fast recovery from your symptoms. If your symptoms don't resolve by the time you see Eid next it may not be a bad idea to consult with another doc for example Clavell or Hakky.
Yes, the canceled surgery was also Dr. Eid. He was on sick leave. I do worry because he is in his early 70s now… I hope he hasn’t ‘lost his fastball’
There was another Frank Talk member (Treetop) who used Dr. Eid in June, and kept a journal which I read before my procedure and I thought was helpful. Unfortunately for me, the journal ended up giving me false expectations because that guy had a perfect recovery, no swelling and a very small straight incision. On day four he was able to fly back to California after activating on day three in the doctor’s office. I guess everyone is different….

I also iced per instructions, but I guess everyone is different. I just was surprised at Dr. Eid‘s reaction when he saw the swelling (“Look at this!”). I did phone him on his cell phone yesterday evening to tell him that I was a bit taken aback. He said it ‘should’ resolve itself in a week or two with hot baths…I still would have liked more of a pep talk…He is in his early 70s now….
Thank you for your support, I need it.

Keeping fingers crossed that everything turns out well for you. Since Eid keeps you 100% deflated, did you ask him if it's an issue to start activating pretty late? I wonder why you have so much pain in your reservoir area. Are you a pretty thin person or did you have issues with pelvic floor pain before or any other pelvic surgery before?
55 years. Using bimix 0.4 units. Works well but inconsistent and very inconvenient. Seriously considering an implant.

Some surgeons activate on day 3, some on week 3, some on week 6, some on week 8. I dont think a delayed activation will have too much of a negative effect on the implant or the person, its down to surgeons preference at the end of the day and what they feel offers the best results.

Dr. Eid stresses the importance of early activation, but you are correct, there are many doctors who activate much later, with good results. Thank you, and thank you to everyone else. I was really down yesterday, but the support here has left me feeling much better.

His nurse removed my bandage, cleaned me up and that’s when I saw it. My scrotum like a grapefruit and all purple. She said he wouldn’t be able to activate today, okay, fine. But then, when Dr. Eid came into the room with his nurse practitioner, he took a look and said, “look at this!” (Not in a good way.) Frankly, I was a bit taken aback. he told me to begin the hot baths lying on my back while holding up my scrotum to try to bring the swelling down and told me not to attempt to activate. He said to return next week… OK, I guess these things can happen, but what I am a bit troubled by is that he spent maybe five minutes with me. He also didn’t tell me that he is on vacation next week so that I will be seeing the nurse practitioner. I mentioned the pain in the area of the reservoir, but he didn’t seem to be that concerned.
I then asked him if I was given the size we had anticipated, 20 cm or if he had to do any trimming. He said he didn’t remember, which I guess I can understand, but he said he would have to check the records. When he left after just several minutes, I was expecting him to come back with that information, he did not. I’m sorry, I know he does a lot of these, but this is my penis and my life and it was a very big decision for me. I was hoping for a little… encouragement. Before I left, I sought out the nurse practitioner and spoke to him about my concerns, and he was very positive and encouraging, phew! I mean, honestly, I was quite upset at the appearance of the penis and scrotum. I’ve seen pictures from other guys who have posted and they look much better than mine.
I am home, I took one of the hot baths, which I would not have been able to manage without my girlfriend helping me in and out of the tub. Then I was lying on the couch with my legs elevated when the reservoir area started to hurt really really bad. I reached out to Doctor Eid just to get hopefully get more information… I asked if my pain in the reservoir area, where I also feel some pinching, is related to the large hematoma and swelling of my testicles. He said it should resolve itself in two or three weeks. OK, so much for early activation. He said if there is a real problem (infection?) It would show itself at the three week mark so not to be so concerned now. He’s the expert and I know he knows what he’s doing, but I wish we had better communication today when I was in the office
Has anyone else had significant swelling of the testicles after the procedure? What about the sharp pain by the reservoir? The testicles don’t hurt, just crazy swollen …Maybe I’m worrying too much?
Thank you
hang in there! - keep trying to engage with Eid. He should be invested in you as his patient, but surgeons don't like having complications or having someone even hint at being critical. I had similar experience with goldstein with my first implant (who is also now well into his 70s or older now). Big ego and when asked about certain issues with the 1st surgery, i felt brushed off and not heard. Eventually, things didnt really work out the way he said they would (8-12 months after surgery) and I sought another opinion. I still think you're very early in recovery. Keep doing what Eid recommends and I think you will be quickly on the road to recovery without any long-term issues.

Thank you! I think what you say about surgeons is true… i’m in a much better place mentally today thanks to you and the other guys on this forum… when I get through this and come out on the other side, I hope to pay it forward…

Re: Implant 3 days ago, Dr Eid, scrotum VERY swollen
Update, day 5: scrotum still swollen like a grapefruit, bruising the entire area of the groin and The thighs near the groin area. Doctor Eid (whom I texted this morning) says this is normal progression of the bruising… Posting pictures is not working, which is maybe a good thing because I think it would scare any guy Who was considering an implant!
My whole groin area looks like it’s been through a meat grinder, not what I expected at all . So many guys fly from all over the country to see my doctor and then fly home on the third or the fourth day. I can barely make it around my apartment! I have to waddle like a duck because of the grapefruit down there… also, my penis looks not only bruised, but small, not feeling good about this right now… I go back into the office on Monday to see the nurse practitioner, (Eid will be on vacation) who has promised me that he will have the information as to whether my cylinders were trimmed or not. As I noted earlier, when I saw Dr. Eid three days after the surgery he said he did not remember…
Dr. Eid is not overly concerned, so I am trying to keep the faith. I keep worrying that he messed up and, forgive me, but I think of Joe Biden, and being past one’s prime…
