Well, if your doctor doesn't think STD testing is beneficial, I would think it doesn't matter if that pimple is acne or herpes, as far as having implant surgery. Herpes is common enough, and according to the CDC 80% or more of the people who have it don't know it. Based on the prevalence of herpes and the number who don't know they have it, there must be many men each year who undergo implant surgery with herpes. If that was a problem, docs would be testing for it. I know I was never asked about it, nor tested by any of the surgeons I visited. I've never read about anyone else who was either asked about STDs or herpes, or tested, in connection with an implant. The main infection risk that I've read about with an implant, is a bacterial infection on the surface of the implant components themselves. Herpes is a virus, normally present (if at all) on the surface of the skin or in the nervous system.

I'd ask Dr Kramer about it again before surgery if I were you, but I'd think its likely just not a concern.

If a person has herpes, having an outbreak in the recovery period would be just miserable. I agree with the other posting, get some Valtrex just to be on the safe side. By the way, a pimple has white pus (whitehead) and herpes is a clear fluid filled blister.

As mentioned I had the tests for HIV, Gonhorre, Syphilis and Herpes. They all came back negative.

As they said at the clinic there was a risk that it might be too early to conclude that this was nothing. So there might still be a risk of infection. My doctor prescribed some Herpes tablets to take just in case I had caught a Herpes virus. I finished this 10 days cure about a week ago.

My doctor still believes that the spot I have is nothing.
Dr. Kramer too thinks that my spot is probably insignificant. But surely he can't say for sure as he hasn't seen me physicall

I looked for pictures of the mentioned pimples - my spot seem to be just this. I have read that these pimples can be caused my a Herpes virus though.

I don't know what to do anymore. This all seems so hopeless. If it helps you helping me, I can post pictures of the spot.

Carmex is great for cold sores (which are herpes, ya silly). As for chapped lips, she needs to drink lots and lots of water, try not to lick her lips, and invest in Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, which is by far the best lip balm I've ever found, better than Chapstick, SoftLips, or any of that other stuff you've been buying from the drugstore for years. You should be able to find it at drugstores, grocery stores, natural foods/health stores, and if all else fails, Bath and Body Works.
