Post op pain

Postby FlaDon » Fri Mar 27, 2015 12:19 am

I had my implant Monday morning, catheter out Tuesday morning, and went back to have the dressings and drain removed Wednesday, at which time he pulled the pump down and told me I needed to do that 3-4 times a day. When he did it in the office I thought I was going to levitate right through the ceiling. The pain was severe, and he wants me back next Wednesday to begin pumping and deflating. I know each of us is different, and I usually have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I can't seem to pull the pump down, much less think about inflating & deflating at this point. Any advice on an easier (or less painful) way to pull down on the pump?

Do it in a warm bath as soon as your surgeon permits you to bathe.

If you've been asked to inflate and deflate without 6 weeks of time passing after surgery it's too soon. Some surgeons want patients to start pumping within 2 weeks post surgery. Every study I've read said patients find this too painful.

Rick, that sounds about like what I was thinking according to the experiences of most of the guys here, so I was surprised when they told me that, realizing it would only have been 9 days since surgery. I had read about some others though that didn't experience a lot of pain. Since I don't have a lot of basis of experience, I was thinking that it must be going to get better by next Wednesday, or that I was just being a wuss & needed to "man-up" and simply push through the pain. For me, after the drain was removed day before yesterday, the scrotum immediately swelled up, and trying to even find the pump was like trying to find a pea in a bowl full of jello....and it hurt. So thanks for the reassurance that it might be rushing things to go at it so soon.

At two weeks out, my scrotum was the size of a grapefruit. I would have killed anyone who tried to squeeze my pump at that time so I congratulate you on your self control because I assume your surgeon is still living. Don't touch your pump until you are 6 weeks post surgery and you'll be fine in terms of pain.

Yeah warm bath or heating pad is the way to go. I'm 10 days post op (infra pubic implant) and started pumping 3 days ago. Pain is not that bad at all so if you can tolerate it, then go for it.

Wow, Nick, I'm very impressed with your recovery. I think mine is following Rick's experience and still don't see any way I'll be able to do any pumping in 3 days, which is when I see the doctor again. And, Rick, the surgeon is very much alive as I didn't see him when I was back the second day after surgery, I saw his PA (and an audience of two visiting residents...so I tried to be on my good behavior).

Now I have a new problem. Following surgery, I was instructed to stay on my back as much as possible for four days, which I did. But yesterday I started getting up and around as much as I could, since I really need to get back to work on Monday. But every time I am upright, I have a lot of pressure settling into the scrotum and penis. I feel sure it is a lymphatic response, as I can relieve the pain by lying down. Have any of you experienced this and if so....what did you do?

I purchased underwear with scrotum support and wore sweat pants for 6 weeks. The underwear I'll continue to wear because I like the support

Here's the link. I'll be wearing this underwear for the rest of my days. Excellent scrotal support:
