Need a good implant surgion Tampa Bay Area

I'm having mine done in May by Dr. Gerard Henry in Shreveport La. I did a lot of research before picking a doctor being that it's one of my most prized possessions this doctor will be operating on. He comes highly recommended and is a pioneer in the field who has published papers on Ed and implants. He's also got videos of the surgery and his own website, which in my opinion only the most confident doctors do. He also highly recommends the AMS 700LGX because I have some size lost because of years of Ed as well and the AMS has chambers that increase length and girth over time and can help get some lost size back. I'm praying and hoping for the best; I'll find out on May 20. There's been a lot of success stories on here so I'm not trying to steal anybody's thunder. Just giving my 2 cents. I wouldn't necessarily knock the "high volume guys." The "low volume guys" would be the ones I would avoid.

The first guy I went to replied "We're not here to build a circus act when I asked if any of the 1.5 out of 6.75 inches I lost could be recovered. The second guy I went to is one of those who does 300 procedures a year, lectures, etc and has the reputation. However I think he is so busy he may not provide optimal care. IMO, there is a "middle of road" in satisfactory numbers such as say, 125 to 150. Some of these IPP surgeons do other types of penal surgery/repairs so just implants done might not be fair rating. Of course there are those that IPP is their major specialty. Just put your trust in your choice.

You wrote that the doc who does over 300 a year "may not provide optimal care." That's an assumption that may not be valid. Who is this doc? We name names here on this board. If he's that high volume I'm sure several of the brothers have dealt with him and will be able to offer an opinion on this physician's "optimal care."

I used Rafael Carrion at USF. Getting an appointment took 3 months. I sat in the waiting room for 2 hrs. He spent 15 minutes with me, couldn't locate some test results I had previously had sent to him, said let me check on something and walked out. Then a staff person came in to give me a fax number to have the info sent again. That was my first visit. I went to the front desk to schedule a follow up. I was told 6 weeks. I was persistent until someone from behind the closed doors came out to work me in sooner, 2 weeks. An hour later while back at work in my cubicle, the doctor calls and says they found my records. I asked could I see him early or late but sooner than 2 weeks. He said he was leaving for a conference the next morning. So I got to discuss my issues and most of the people who sit near me know my business now. He agrees to call me at home the next evening. He never did. A few days later I get a letter with a lab order for a urinalysis. The letter says I left an insufficient specimen, go to a lab and get a test. I was never asked for a specimen, so I call to find out what's going on. I have a stern discussion with one of the staff that insists the letter would not have gone out and I must have been asked. I told her she was mistaken. She insisted I was wrong. I told her I would discuss her comments with the doc when I saw him in 2 weeks. So I show up two weeks later and now the doc tells me someone in the practice has questioned my mental health regarding the implant and we needed to discuss whether or not he needed to "fire" me as a patient. I asked did he mean he needed to recuse himself. I asked who and was told he could not say. I wound up having to get a letter from my psychiatrist clearing me for surgery. It was a beautifully worded masterpiece. Also at that time I told him at the second visit he and his staff had been horribly rude and unprofessional and he wasn't the only game in town. He implied that I may have lied about the reason for approaching him. That being that a fellow alumnus had replied "we're not here to build a circus act" when I had inquired about recovering length lost due to ED. (That was Timothy Weber By the way) Carrion stated he only had my side of that conversation and I was suspect. 5 minutes later he made references that I was not the only one who had avoided Weber. His staff and he are not prompt in returning calls if they return them at all. At my two week post op he stated I was doing great. I asked about stitch removal and he stated they would dissolve and to speed the process by wiping with peroxide once a day. Well that works for the external parts but not what's under the skin. They didn't dissolve fast enough so my immune system decided they needed to be attacked and there was redness, swelling, pain, so I did as instructed and called the after hours number. I got to talk to the resident, not Dr. Carrion. The resident didn't know jack about my case and kept asking unrelated questions. I respect a doctor's privacy. I am not going to call them directly. Any calls I do receive come through a third party. Contacting the office or staff directly is impossible. I used two other surgeons this year for carpal tunnel and a hernia. I have both of their cell and home numbers. I've never used them.

I've been on the roller coaster of did I do the right thing, but the surgery went well, I seem to be healing OK, and I have recovered some length since day of surgery. I had relatively minor pain after surgery and took no painkillers after post op day 2. I'm still disappointed that I lost length from pre ED days, but I have not lost any of the pre surgery stretched length. I am down about 25% from pre ED.

I guess my biggest complaint with Carrion is I expect a relationship with my physicians. Carrion promises that in his videos but doesn't deliver. He falls into my category of body mechanic, not physician. He also seems to be a mouthpiece for Coloplast.
