Hi Tom OK Going I reverse, 46c was our highest in all the time we was out there, but that would be just one week, and a few odd weeks up in the low 40's, as for trees, lots of olive and some eating olive trees, a few orange, mandarin, lots of fig including a black fig, very nice are black figs, some pear trees, we had a pistachio but only one we was told we need two a male and a female, so we just got shells with a very small nut inside, and 12 rows of vines, we let other guys pick them, brew beer but not wine, but do love red wine though.
As for tome could keep cherry tom's going till November, gave them lots of water on a drip feed pipes, grew peppers, cayenne peppers, chilli's and most other veg, and my wife's love, strawberry's had two 9 mitre rows going, produce around 2 pounds a day at there best, so we were eating lots of them, the rest we gave to or neighbour, a great old Greek couple, but last year had lots of savour cabbages, sprouts and purple sprouting broccoli, now that we do love, and parsnips, hard work out there, and all organic, just have to keep the ground good with lots of compost, wood ash, and was getting olive leaves from the olive press, had a 10 ton lorry load, just keep adding it in, and lots of liquid manure, got old goat and sheep's shit from and old shed they kept them in, just fed then once a week, need to get it going here for my runner beans, these are the one thing we could not get going in Greece, broad beans and peas yes.
so that's how much I grow out there here its all a bit to late but do have runner beans going if late, cabbages going in soon plants coming on.
I think our oldest olive trees were well over a 100n years old like a lot where we lived on some of the groves, but you should do an olive pick and get them pressed, nothing like your own oil, ours was turned over to organic, we have never used any chemicals or sprays since we had the land of just over 2 1/2 acres, here we have a postage stamp, but lots of fields all around us, crops near by is rape seed for oil, trouble is if the dog gets into he comes out yellow and full of sticky buds our other dog has to stay on her lead or she will be off, she's a natural hunter once off she does not come back.
So there you go a bit of Greek life and some English.

Re: physical problems
It's funny, but when I pictured your home, I always imagined it on a remote Greek Island. After googling it, I see it's on the mainland. It really seems like a nice place and I can see why you'd like to live there.
My wife is outside cutting our row of Oleanders now. I'd just as soon use a chainsaw on them to trim them, but she's old school.
I have a friend who has a row of huge Oleanders and once, he accidentally mulched up a bunch of leaves and branches and feed it to 2 mature steers.
After they took sick, he asked me if I thought the Oleanders killed them. That stuff is deadly in any way it's ingested.
We aren't bothered when getting the sap on our skin though.

Re: physical problems
Hi Tom, We have a load of them around our property in Greece, they can take a heavy pruning, very hardy plants our never get any water during the summer months just keep going year in year out, so they should do really well were you are, makes a great hedging plant, there tons around Greece, they even use them down the centres of motorways.
There was some really bad storms around last night, we just sore the flash's with a very low rumble. and that was it, but created havoc else where but then that's how it
goes, here in the good old UK, but living here is just a case of sorting things out slowly, till the house in Greece is sold, its only been 4 to 5 years on the market, just hope all this trouble gets sorted out, it needs it and soon, or Greece will die on its feet.
Good Luck

I wonder is you got some of the storm that has plagued Saint Andrews and the Open Tournament?
Now that we are in the monsoon season, we get storms almost every night, but they are hit and miss. Barb saw some lightning last night, but heard no thunder. She got back to the Oleanders again this morning and I joined in. I provide most of the muscle, but she has a motor that really runs. I ended up getting out the electric chain saw since I can never keep a gas one working. It wasn't overly hot this morning and when we finished, it was around 102 degrees F. Sorry, I don't know the conversion. I must admit that I got into the beer pretty early, but one must keep up the fluid level. I seem to be accustomed to that although it's not recommended. The city will haul off yard clippings to compost, but they don't like to compost Oleanders and palm fronds.
When I googled your Greek town, a home for sale came up that included a car and detailed directions to get a
Greek driver's license.
I hope if any other posters would like to post details of their happenings, they feel free to jump in? We could make it a sort of "off topic" thread?

Re: physical problems
Hi Tom its not so much a licence, its that you have to own property before you can own a house, the reason its with the hose it because its a left hand drive, can drive in the UK with one, but we thought it would help sell the house? some hope there then, and yes that is my house, sorry villa, we named it Villa Mature Olives, because two old farts live there, but at the moment we do have a young American couple house sitting for us she's from Austin Texas and he's from Monterey, famed for its music, there OK just taking some time out, they should be there for a year unless it sells before that.
Are yes Villa Mature Olives, was also named as we did intend to have guests, the renting kind, for O Natural breaks but these would have been over 50's with no children, that we would have got some piece and quite and so would they, so it would have been brown body's, lots of sun the pool, late night swims if they wanted it, and lots of good Greek clean air, were 350 mts above sea level.
Just been doing my best to get it across that once you are burnt as a child from the sun, there is a great it cuts back the chances of skin cancer, but you do need to ask google the right questions. This was in the UK's Daily Mail, you can put your own comments on there if you join up, sometimes its a bit of fun, you can put down people, and even the ones who give crap answers.
But glad to here your working well, its all I seem to be doing here, been like it since we moved back and still more to do, just improving our living in somebody else's house we are renting, which most will stay when we go? great life, if it does not drag you down

Wow, small world, huh?
Today, no work, just playing golf. I play 9 holes with some guys who are by-the-book golfers. I suppose I should also do that all the time, but getting older, I like some liberties. These guys putt out every shot and naturally, play every ball where it lies. Lately, I'm finally starting to shoot a little better than bogey and that's my lot now I guess.
Most Texans seem to be nice except for some of the politicians lol. People from Monterey (northern California) are vastly different from Texans I've found. Sometimes, opposites attract.
I missed the meaning of your skin cancer observations. Here, they say that getting burned as a kid sometimes leads to skin cancer in later years. My wife and I have had Basal cell cancer several times, but I think the value of sunlight to prevent osteoporosis might just outweigh the risk. Who knows?
Nice weather for the open today. It was nice seeing Jordan Spieth getting back in the hunt. I like following golf and not just for Tiger Woods like many "fans".

Hi Tom Sorry forgot to say, that same storm went all the way up to Scotland, it did lots of damage as it went and dumped lots of water as it went a long its merry little way, ending up putting the shit on the golf, then followed by high winds even more shit for the golfers, not much of a golf fan, but did get into pitch and put years ago, did watch lots of golf with a lot of the older guys playing some of our best courses many years ago like in the late 60's, yes that long ago.
Are the cancer thing it was this, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... myths.html, your find my answer's in the comments down the bottom, your see me as barsan.
This Basal cell cancer is something I had a few years ago had it frozen off, was told to keep out of the sun, some chance there, I spend as much time as I could and buck naked as well, do the naturist life style, just think we were all born naked so why not live like it, saves a lot on clothing, never have to worry what to wear for the day, work as much as I can naked, sit working on the computer naked, so that's my life, spent the whole summer from the 1st of July to mid October 3 years ago through the summer heat laying stone in Greece, apart from the new front stairs, the rest was all done very naked, never got burnt, use olive oil during the afternoons when it got really hot, our real hot days are 44c which is around 118f, the best we had was 46c or about 122f, that heat killed of our apple trees, we had two of them.
So there you go a bit more of me you now know about and all the other guys.
Say guys please jump in when ever you want, it nice to just chit chat.

It's ironic that we all can bare our souls about our erectile problems, but don't want to get too involved personally. That's all right as that isn't the goal of the web site.
My apple tree is only a bit less than 2 years old, but it is really taking off this summer. We do share a love of growing things I see.
I've been using the Ross root feeder on my citrus, apple and plum tree and they really respond well to it. When the leaves start looking yellowish, I use "green again" in the root feeder.

Re: physical problems
Hi Tom, till we sell in Greece we are just stuck here, with just what we have here, so far I have dug a veggie patch, and trying to stop our dogs from getting out and about, we have a road about 100 metres away its pretty fast, so not the place for dogs to cross even thought they have both done it, now about to build some huddles to bury in the box hedge to stop that, but my table saw has been playing just got that fixed today, so off I go again, now about to get back out there and off I go again, also going to move a fence I put up, so lots to do over the next couple of days, but good old rain tomorrow, coming through the west country later and moving over us then.
So away I must go

Wow, sounds like you have your work cut out for you this summer.
I bought a lot of composted steer manure to mix in the soil in my small garden.
It's hard to find the right time to turn it over by hand since it's so damned hot. My plot is too small to use a rototiller on.
