Dr. Perito experiences

Postby Epsilon » Fri Aug 21, 2015 3:29 pm

Looking for anybody with first hand experience with Dr. Perito. I read on his web site he's very fast - under 15 minutes (minimizes infection exposure). Does not use a catheter. Some have said his procedure is close to painless. And his recovery period is typically four weeks, sometimes a little less. Sounds like you can almost do an outpatient stay sometimes. Interested in anybody who's been there so to speak. Thanks.

Pretty much that's all true. Dr Perito fixed my "fucked up" implant. It works great. Nearly painless.. The first night is a bitch! Sex at 17 days post-op. Suspect my surgery took longer as he had to remove the previous implant and "fix some stuff". Dr. Perito is my hero!!!

I just noticed Catman's post. He may or may not be the guy who was in the other bed in my hosp room. Didn't realize til an hour before discharge that he was also a Peritoite. He told me that his worked great--he loved it--BUT--after 3 yrs it just broke! He had his removed and replaced same day as mine. So, for me, there was some good info and bad. Hope mine works as well as his, but hope it lasts longer than 3 yrs.
Also, as an aside, I'd never been to Miami, and was really stunned by the language barrier. Even in C.G. Hosp., at least 70% speak very, very broken English, and is irritating in that type of setting. I should have expected it, be cause I experienced the same thing in San Diego last year, with such a high Mexican populace. No Mexican-Amer in Miami--all from Cuba, Cent. Amer, or South-Amer. So anyone heading that way might want to take a pocket Sp-Eng dictionary.
Other than the language, the hospital is more or less average, from my experiences.

I would be interested in hearing more about the first night being a bitch also since I have chosen Perito as my surgeon. I am waiting on the pre auth from my insurance to come back.

The first night (Friday) was spent at Coral Gables Hospital. It was pretty much of pain, pain meds, confusion, discomfort, worry.... No better or worse than my hip replacement or prostatectomy. I did have a catheter. Late Saturday morning a female doctor (Dr. Perito went out of town after my surgery I think) started "messin' with my stuff", removed the catheter and readied me for discharge. I asked about pain meds and she said 'no prescription - just take Tylenol'. After a brief panic (I did two script of Oxy and 3 months of Tramadol after my first implant), I realized Dr Perito was sending me a message: 'yes, I am the good'.

After my first implant I cried in pain all of the 3 mile drive home. After Dr Perito's surgery, I sat in the back seat and sang along with the car stereo for the 40 or so miles in heavy traffic.

Yes... Miami is Spanish. Not only CG Hospital, the waiting room in Dr Perito's office is filled with several animated Spanish conversations most of the time. Interesting if you are interested. I was amused, not annoyed. His staff all spoke excellent English. His (beautiful) manager Zuly worked with me until after 8 pm the night before the surgery as Humana had cancelled my authorization at 4:30 pm that afternoon and it took us hours on the phone to get re-approved!

I have posted several other detailed accounts of many aspects of this experience. I have never searched this site for them but I'm sure they are easy to find. Simply put: I chose the wrong doctor for my first implant and got a LOT of unnecessary pain and after 9 months a non-functioning implant. Dr. Perito fixed it all! Did I say Dr Perito is my hero?!!!

I have read that with Perito you have the option of staing overnight at the hosptial or going back to your hotel. I also thought he said that he does not leave a cather in post op. Maybe yours was different becuase it was a replacement?

What type of anesthesia did you have?

I was implanted by dr Perito in July 14. Everything for me was textbook. Super job by dr p. He is as good as it gets. A little pain first few days. I was activated at 4 wks and all has been heavenly ever since. My only regret is that I didn't do this many years ago. If you are married, your wife will be very happy. If you are single - lots of girls will be happy. Let me know of any questions or concerns. Good luck.
