Hello Guys, I am trying to decide on Implant surgery and need some information. I live about 225 miles from Houston and I go to Houston for major medical treatment and to me this is major. I am 65 year old, had prostate cancer detected in August 2015, removed October 2015 by Dr Slawin @ Vanguard Urologic Institute , nerves were spared but the ED continues. Oral meds do nothing, Muse did not work, started Tri-mix injections, was using + 30 units but the after pain was pretty bad, switched to Bi-mix plus a 20 mg Cialis to get a satisfactory erection. I hate the injections, not painful just make me very nervous and the anxiety of the failure causes a "race to the finish line" .
Does anyone have any experience with implant surgery at Vanguard Urologic Institute and / or Dr. Peter Hihn that you are willing to share. I am very pleased with the prostate surgery and care that I got afterwards but I did not even know that they did implant surgery, no idea how many they have done, successful ratio to repairs and etc.
I have heard about Dr Robert J. Cornell and spoke to one of his patients that really praised him highly. I would really appreciate any input that you may have concerning this, either good or bad. Thanks very much

Q & A with Robert J. Cornell, M.D. – Prosthetic Urology and Men's Health Specialist
On his website is an interview with Howard Stern
BTW The IPP was developed in Houston at by Dr. Scott, BCM. Dr. Cornell was trained on IPP's at BCM, Scott Urology Department.
He also has a call in talk show "Straight Up" every other Wednesday 11 a.m. , available via the internet. Search for it here, as I provided a thread to it.
I am thirty-three days since he did my implant, was deflated and inflated Tuesday. Excellent Staff, Excellent Surgery Team, Excellent Hospital.

William, I would also recommend Dr. Cornell. After doing extensive reading, I chose him even though I lived out of state. I had my implant 33 days ago and all is going smoothly. He told me I had some scarring inside my penis (probably due to the Trimix injections) but with his surgical skill and experience he was able to successfully overcome this obstacle.
60-year old male. Struggled with ED for many years. Tried the pills, pumps and injections with varying and diminishing degrees of effectiveness. Implanted with the AMS LGX by Dr. Robert Cornell in Houston on August 14, 2015.

William:
I too am a Houstonian. I have interviewed two other doctors in Houston about implants. Both are with Baylor, Scott Department of Urology. Dr. Larry Lipschulz and Dr Mohmet Khera. I am considering an implant. Both doctors are high(er) volume practitioners 50 to 60 per year. Both are professors of urological medicine. Both train doctors on implant procedures and techniques. I am still undecided about implants, however I could trust myself to either doctor once I have made up my mind. I have no experience with Dr. Cornell.
Hope this helps.

William:
Subsequent to my last post to you, I have decided on getting an implant. I have Selected Dr. Khera and am currently starting the pre op and scheduling process. Again, I did not interview Cornell. His practice sounds a little too much like a factory for me. Drs. Khera and Lipschulz have extensive experience, do enough implants to be good (50 to 70 per year). In choosing between the two, I just felt Dr. Khera was more personally involved and more understanding, that being said, I could easily go with Lipschulz as well.
Hope this helps.

Cincinanatus,
I hope your IPP op was successful and welcome to the Bionic Brotherhood.
I saw your thread when you wrote it and intended to reply at that time, but time got the best of me, however that statement begged for me to make a reply. Now that I am 14 weeks post-op I have a better appreciation of Dr. Cornell's practice. It is NOT a factory. That said he has assembled an great staff and a thorough efficient operating team coupled with post-op hospital care nurses attentive to your needs. He cannot do the volume he does without making sure every body is on the same page and singing the same tune.
Once the tests showed I needed an IPP, he worked to justify it to my insurance company. His staff worked with the insurance company for over four months to get it approved. Pre-op I asked two pages of questions, all of them were answered.
Have had a few operations and found that the pre-op by the hospital was thorough. My operation went off as scheduled, saw him before the operation and he was in my hospital room in the morning to remove my catheter, deflate my IPP and release me. During the days of post-op, when I needed an answer to a question it was only a call or email away. I have never felt like I was on an factory assembly line.
Dr. Cornell has a IPP reference list, I have talked to several on the list. He could tell me about each one including one IPP he did in 2004. BTW WilliamB had Dr. Cornell do his IPP. On my last Post-Op visit to him I mentioned he had recently done a "WilliamB" he knew who he was. Yes he is a high volume IPP doctor only because he is, first one of the best if not the best, and two because he has put together and manages a cohesive team.
.... and yes I would select him again.

Cincinanatus,
I have had the implant surgery 4 wks ago, by Dr Cornell, and like Roninhouston said, I never felt like I was an assembly line patient. Dr Cornell handled everything personally and when I ask about interns/residents, his answer was I handle this myself, these are my patients and I want it done a certain way. I do not do training on my patients. I find him to be easy to talk to, straight forward very helpful. He gave me his cell phone number and email, I have used it and got a fast response. You can't ask for more than that. I highly recommend that Dr Cornell be considered when needing implant surgery. So far my results are very positive, very short period of pain, bruising ad swelling. Sensitivity is returning very good. I know results are different for each of us , but so far I am pleased.
