I am planning to see Dr. Milam as soon as I am able to work out the logistics of it to try for an implant in Nov. or Dec. I have many health issues, had a prostatectomy, 4 hernia repairs and crazy want to take the easy route or do nothing to avoid my issues doctors had me suicidal this winter. E.D since 1997 from a hernia repair then prostatectomy in 2009.
Dr. Eid and Dr. Milam both told me after I went over everything the other 15 quacks said were issues several times that they were no issue for them at all and they do a number of them on people with my same issues every month. One ( forget who) said it was hard to find a 70 y.o. man who has not had hernia repairs. I'm 57 now. Dr. Eid was kind enough to send me pictures how he would have to do the surgery slightly different. Dr. Milam's office even called several times to tell me to call any time to set it up and remind me again that my issues they can handle, no problem. It was really a tossup to me which doctor. Both impressed me. Nashville is only 7 hours drive so that is the only reason I picked one over the other. if it were not for motel, taxi, and airfare to NY I would have to flip a coin to chose which doc. Good luck. glad the V.A did not go all V.A. on you and giving you a proper chance with a good doc. . Cheers bud.
Has anyone ever heard of Dr. John Mulcahy in the Birmingham

LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

Sadly, the have went "all VA" on me MANY times and it never worked out. This is number nine... They finally realized they couldn't do it.

It appears that Dr. Mulcahy has moved his practice to Madison, Ala., a suburb of Huntsville, Ala., which, of course, is a big military town. Maybe that explains the VA piece? I looked into surgeons in Birmingham, but never found one that I was comfortable with.
Even though Nashville is a 5 1/2 drive for me, I chose Dr. Douglas Milam at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Milam, who is considered a "rock star" surgeon, did my implant in May 2014, and I have been very pleased with the outcome.
He is willing to maintain e-mail contact with his patients if they have follow-up questions/problems, etc., which was very important to me.

Re: Has anyone ever heard of Dr. John Mulcahy in the Birmingham
I just wanted to followup on this older thread. I had the surgery by Dr. Mulcahy and it was very unsatisfactory. It failed a few months later and I went a very long time with this broken device in me.
After a lot of posturing with the VA, I finally got a fee-basis surgery approved and went to Nashville to see Dr. Milam. He installed the AMS 700 LGX on Sept. 23, 2015.
Dr. Milam is HANDS-DOWN the best IPP surgeon I've encountered. The final result is better than expected and produced NEARLY no pain. Dr. Milam is indeed a "Rock Star" for this surgery, and I believe I'm finally going to have a great long term result.
I recommend Dr. Milam to anyone as the surgeon of choice, no matter how far you must travel.

Well the problem is that the VA doesn't normally give you any say in the matter at all. After about 10 (Ten) botched surgeries, they finally allowed me to see Dr. Milam. He was my choice from the very first, but the VA wouldn't approve it until royally screwing up and costing me 2" and 5 years through all of this.
