Really? A 2-3 week wait for surgery? Holy smokes, I waited 4 1/2 months after signing up for the surgery in Canada. I wish I could have had it done after only 2-3 weeks. That could never happen here. The wait time for an appointment for an office visit with my doc is about the same though. Wait times for all types of surgery are a serious issue with our health care.

alibaba, Dr. Milam is not the greatest for communication, but his reputation is excellent. He has an attitude, but I've seen that with a lot of good surgeons.

I thought about seeing Eid or the doc in Maryland, but the idea of staying in a motel room for a week was unappealing.

I started this whole process with Dr. Milam back in August. By the time we were ready to schedule surgery, he was already booked into December. I wanted to wait until I started on Medicare on December 1st, so January 14th was the soonest. At least I'm not in Canada. ;)

I started working on Milam in Aug also but did not get to see him till Oct 7. Earliest date they would give me for installation is Feb 24th. When I called in June they told me there was no doubt they could get it done within 6 weeks as that was how far out they were scheduling. 1 week in a motel for Eid was the issue for us too plus airfare for 2. Did not see any sign of attitude with him in the visit but felt rushed. Last visit of the day and did not get to ask all I wanted. Staff had gone home for the day and part of the lights were out when we left the exam room. I want to know about the conceal reservoir and if he would use it, and I would like to handle, look at, a real LGX sample. I 've seen and handled other brands, old models. Just somehow want to examine one up close and see what the material feels and flexes like. He did seem to have a narrow mindset in what he wants to do but there we were in agreement so no issue. Above all he did not seem like a phobic asshole like some docs I'd seen and not an arrogant ass who had no interest in my wishes like a few others. I give him major points there. He must have had free time last year because they called me 3 times to tell me he would do it, but at the time I thought i was going to be able to get it done nearby in St. Louis. (120 miles). By the time I had my horror appointments with those crazy nut jobs it was too late to get into Milam.

watsup, last time I'd checked with Eid was mid summer. They told me that it would take a week or 2 for a phone interview, then they could schedule surgery within 2-3 weeks. I had the interview set up but then the insurance company started pulling their crapola again so I cancelled to sort that, then Milam's office came through with an appointment after several " he does not do surgery any more", and "Vanderbilt does not accept United Healthcare" and such nutso statements the staff would give me, none of which turned out to be true. For the most part it seems nobody knows what is going on at Vanderbilt. Some others here had the same issue about that time. d

And in case I havent sounded Dr Kramer loving enough already in other posts don't forget to consider him if you decide to change docs. He will personally return emails and phone calls. His office staff though I never met in person are incredibly nice. Southwest Airlines flys into Baltimore nd seems to be one of the most affordable. I stayed 2 days in Baltimore but he said I could fly or be driven home in one day (he preferred two). My dive was 10 hours and not an issue for me. A free hospital shuttle took me to and from the hospital. Followup is something to consider as any doc will want followup if problems but even if no issues like me will want a urologist to recheck. A local doc might be willing, Dr Kramer helped me find one who did implants that was near me to save me the hour flight. Just didnt see Dr Kramer's name mentioned and given his responsiveness, friendly staff and ease of getting there and recovery I thought I should bring him up again. Great surgeon annd great person.

Thanks for the Kramer reminder. Baltimore has never been appealing to me. Maybe it is the thought of being so close to so many bought and paid for worthless git politicians. d

Getting back to the original topic...

Listening to you fellows talk about all these high-powered docs with attitudes and schedules months out makes me real glad I went to a local urologist. He does about 30-40 a year and the local AMS rep I met with at an ED seminar says he is in the top 1% in Michigan so I was pretty comfortable having him do it.

Just had my implant (AMS LGX) on Tuesday and I've gotta say this has been very painful - and I have a high pain threshold from chronic back issues. I've had ice on 24/7 since the surgery and I swelled up a LOT. Penis and scrotum and some surrounding areas are totally black and blue. I've pretty much been in the La-Z-Boy since I got home, watching lots of TV and doing my Christmas shopping on-line :) Percocet has helped a lot when the pain got too intense. I am baffled by those of you who have been up and around doing normal things in a few days - or the one fellow who went back to work the next day :o , just can't imagine it.

I'm with you midwestman. I was wiped out for a week. First off; I had to keep the catheter in for another four days. Then, nothing that I would wear would work. But, if it helps, it gets WAY better. You will feel better every day.
