AMS or Coloplast, OR decision
AMS or Coloplast, OR decision
I have read of late that some patients feel choice of brand can be made in OR after proper measuring. I certainly may be incorrect, but it was my understanding that even the highest of volume surgeons actually planned IPP surgeries around a pre determined manufacture and that particular day that company rep would be there. Example, Tuesday and Thursday the AMS representative is there, Monday, Wednesday, the Coloplast rep. It does make some sense to be possible so that rep had all sizes and needs rather than the hospital being responsible to having each brands lengths & extenders on ea hot day of IPP surgery. Have I been mislead in my thinking? I just got that impression when my surgery was scheduled .

You may be on to something my wife and I discussed last night. I got an AMS LGX on Wed. another person got a Titan on thurs. Same doc, same hospital. Doc told me in Oct he would put an AMS in me.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.
Re: AMS or Coloplast, OR decision
I had a Titan installed Dec7th... was replacing defunk AMS Ambicor.... both surgeries the AMS (first implant) and Coloplast (last month's surgery) were present.... till doctor gets in and hollows out place for inflatable tubes is really no way to know size ... and yes rep brings all the parts....my doctor over last 5 years has switch all to Coloplast... that is what he pushes..
Side note... started using... DAMN!! life is GOOD

Many surgeons are wedded to one company or another; not exclusively, but primarily. I suspect there are some financial considerations to the doctor for this. I recommend asking the surgeon which one (s)he uses mostly and why. Personally, I would prefer a doctor who said (s)he implants both.

K,
I agree the more ideal choice in surgeons does both, but I do believe the decision is not generally made in the operating room, but before surgery so arrangements can be made for a rep from chosen company to be available on that given day. I certainly could be wrong. Perhaps certain days of surgery are specific to a particular reps present.......all planned out in making date for surgery.

Same surgeon gave me a Titan and my attorney an AMX. Go figure. Mine is a weapon.

Re: AMS or Coloplast, OR decision
My surgeon was going to give me an AMS. I'm very concerned about retaining as much size as possible, and have read or seen on Youtube that the Titan is better for girth. Whether that's true today, I don't know. I've gained a lot of girth since losing length to Peyronies, so I wanted to at least keep that.
I was surprised that my doc listened to my points, and said he'd do a Titan.

DonB,
I suggest Tebozo and I both were thinking on the lines of AMS in the beginning, and we had similarities in regards to flaccid pre-surgery. Our surgeon's recommendation of Coloplast seemed to stem around the fact that in his opinion we would get better girth and flaccid appearance. We put our trust in his suggestion.
T, I believe we had surgery on Tuesdays, what day was your friend's? Suspect Tuesdays are Coloplast days.
I would not argue that there good certainly be a little "kick back" with the industry.

Re: AMS or Coloplast, OR decision
I recently talked to DR Gelman in LA area and he makes the decision during surgery. He told me he is not "in bed" with either AMS or Coloplast. I thought DR Kramer told me he makes the decision during surgery as well. Not positive though as it has been 6 weeks.
I am 74 years old and live near San Diego, CA. Had my 3 piece implant done 3 years ago by DR. Karpman. Due to MS I no longer have feeling in my hands and am no longer able to inflate. "ANY HELP" would be greatly appreciated!
