How do I know if my implant was "undersized"?

Postby midwestman » Tue Feb 09, 2016 11:58 am

My size, both length and girth, before and after implant is very different and not in the positive direction. Realizing that I have only had it for two months and I do have the AMS LGX so I have the potential to get bigger in both dimensions, I feel like I may have been undersized. My last measurement with a natural erection a few years before my prostate surgery I measured 7-1/4 inches from pubic bone to tip. When I used the vacuum pump right before my implant I was arguably the same size as natural erection. Now, with the implant I measure about 5-1/4 inches pubic bone to tip. When the implant is fully inflated I can take hold of the glans and pull it out a little before I feel the "stop" of the ligament, maybe 1/4" and I can feel the tip of the implant is below the glans. Also, when inflated, I don't feel any stretch at all. I would think that the implant would have been sized to inflate slightly longer than measured length to allow it to re-stretch the penis from it's non-erection shrinkage. So, at this point I am wondering if I should seek a second opinion on this :?

I guess a few of us are in the same category at the moment. We've had a similar reduction in terms of % anyway. I feel that I''m at least 1.5" shorter but not only that but the last inch or so feels unsupported. Combined with tubing which is forward by 1/2 inch, I've literally got no usable length in some positions and at best a micropenis in other positions. I was thinking previously that maybe there is a lot of swelling but to be honest I can't see much. Ive been relatively pain-free in the penile shaft since the op. I just had oozing in the scrotum area but the penis has never had any pain. This makes me think that I was undersized as even pumping hardly produces much pain except for some expansion of girth.

I've now contacted Eid as well. This time around I'm getting multiple opinions and hopefully go with the one that seems most reasonable.

I was reading on Eid's web site and he had the following information for revisions... Yikes! I hope it's not too late and hope any damage from the first implant can be reversed.

Most often than not, several procedures at timed intervals (usually 3 months or more) with placement of temporary semi-malleable implants may be required in order to maximize size, girth, correct penile deformity and minimize surgical complications. Finally it is important for patients to be cognizant that there are limitations to the regaining of penile size due to scar tissue formation, and that the main objective is to obtain a functional erection. It is therefore important to have realistic expectations.

As is the case for most surgical procedures, the first or initial operation is always the easiest. All subsequent repairs and revisions are more complicated and require additional surgical time and especially a more experienced surgeon. Also and because of the delicate and mechanical nature of the inflatable penile implant, this type of procedure works best if it is done well the first time. All subsequent revisions give a less than desirable outcome due to the formation of scar tissue, shortening of penis, and areas of numbness.

Since you've only had it for two months, my suggestion would be to just give it time -- pumping it up fully on a regular basis.

Yes, I know its been a short amount of time, just frustrated I guess, and disappointed. The short length combined with the large numb area on the bottom side makes intercourse very frustrating. I'd like to get a second opinion anyway just to see what another doc would say. Thanks guys.

As I have said many times, no information given by anyone here should be taken for facts.
But for whatever it is worth, here is what Dr. Eid said to me about over- and undersizing:
A correctly sized implant goes well into the glans. It crinkles when deflated and is not crinkled when inflated.
Cylinders not going well in to the glans, no crinkling when deflated are signs of undersizing.
Cylinders crinkled when inflated is sign of oversizing.
I also spoke to someone who said Kramer told him that if the glans can be pulled forward, as if it is not fixed, means undersizing.

If above is true, then maybe there is a risk you are undersized.
On the other hand, that should be judged and diagnosed by a doctor, not by me.

In my case, I easily feel the tip of the cylinders high up in my glans, especially from the sides.
My cylinders crinkles when deflated.
When I inflate there is no crinkling.
When aroused my glans swell up and I cannot feel the tips with my fingers.
After 6 weeks of inflating I still feel some light pain both in the tip and the perineal area when inflating maximum. With arousal and glans engorgement there is no pain in the glans though.

Eid has stated some doctors are afraid to oversize so they undersize and count on the LGX expanding to get to the right size. Yes, my tips are right at the edge of the bottom of the glans deflated, pumped up might go in 1/4". glans is so small and deflated now there is no issue of a floppy head. Since it's 1/2 size of before not much to flop. Meotheman, I assume you were implanted pubicly aslo? I also have 1/2" plus, I would say more like 3/4" loss there due to the wad of tangled hoses under the skin. It is VERY difficult to even find the pubic bone feeling around now. It used to be "right there". Milam told me in October " Let me be clear, you will lose size and will not be able to expand or get any of it back with the LGX". Despite what everyone said here, he appears to be correct. I have also been told like merrix stated that scaring after 30 days post implant will keep me from getting all or maybe any my old length back if I have this *_*^$#(*&) thing replaced. I feel bad. One suggestion was for my wife to have vaginal reduction surgery to make her fit my undersize dick now. That made me want to cry. No way I am going to put this on her.

I think Merrix is right. Eid kind of confirmed the same thing on his web site that length is hard to regain. In my case he's thinking that the cylinders barely reaching the glans is a good thing as it will allow a larger cylinder to be inserted. He may be able to insert a 22cm implant and possibly more. However this is purely based on what I've described to him and he would like a video consultation where I'll need to inflate and pull the glans to see how much extra space is there. Only then he can advise whether I'll truly recover any length. I wonder if a LGX (inserted properly) could help in these kind of cases. I know that Eid isn't fond of them but he does give the option.

Alibaba, same could be true of your situation. Are you able to pull on the glans and do they stretch out? Maybe some length could be gained yet.

I flacid I get about 1/4" more pulling the glans. Inflated for whatever that is worth I do not get any extra under the glans but that is only if I pump up over 140 pumps. Whit I find interesting is when inflated, I can pull on my penis and the whole thing will stretch out another 3/4 to 1". It is like the inside portion of the cylinders bow and when I pull they straighten out best as we can figure. I am having an office visit with a doc 3 hours away who specializes in repair and replacements of screwed up implants. He was recommended by my internist and a person who had the same issues I have repaired. Will see what he has to say. I'm am very close to saying that when I make the budget in December I will allocate funds for an Eid repair which is much more expense and travel, but I want a hands on opinion before I spend a lot more time and money there. Eid told me he thinks if it were installed differently the result would have been much better. I REALLY appreciate him taking time to answer me concerns. Moetheman, I do have the LGX. Again, Milam told me not matter what I read or hear, "it will not gain in length or girth" ever. I asked "ever?". Only reason I was hopeful of an LGX was to gain a little of what was lost after the prostatectomy, no kinks or dog ears, and a natural flacid. I can check off nothing on my wish list as being fulfilled. It is becoming more and more clear that I should have had a Titan or at the very least tips extenders.

Alibaba - First of all, I'm sorry for your disappointing results.

When I read your descriptions I just can't help think it sounds like your cylinders are not inflating properly.
140 pumps? Either something is wrong or you have a 20 inch dick...

Anyway, my view is worthless now as you are already talking to true medical experts. Good luck!
