Slightly odd question

Postby moetheman » Thu Feb 18, 2016 1:51 pm

I'm now planning to see Dr Eid for a revision. However Coloplast will only accept a certified check (presumably in USD) and will not accept any other form of payment. I live in the UK and called my bank and they had no idea how to provide a certified check. Has anybody from the UK on this forum done this? Whats the process for getting a certified check created? My bank has presence in the US but just worried that it will take a number of days if I write the check in America and I'll miss my surgery.

When you claim "they had no idea how to provide a certified check" (it would be cheque" in the UK) who do you mean by "they"? I recommend asking for the name of the bank manager, then request to speak to him/her on the matter.

Yes it's "cheque" indeed in the UK. I rang the Telephone banking number of my bank. I think the guy was just fobbing me off as he didn't know. I'm now planning to visit the local branch and sort it out there. I was told by Eid's staff that other UK patients had no problems with providing the cheques. Maybe the telephone banking advisor was of the same calibre as my first surgeon. Fed up of these idiotic & incompetent people.

Moetheman:
International money transfers can be a hassle wtih local retail banks. Perhaps if you called it a international funds transfer or electronic funds transfer, it would help. As stated above, I would call the Bank's main office and ask to speak with the international banking group. It probably won't be what is referred to in the US as a Cashiers check. As long as the deposit is as good as cash, it should not be a problem. You need some kind of instrument that does not have to "clear" before it is funded. Merrix is a Scandanavian who had Eid do his surgery, you might ask him how he did it.

Ask Eid if you can just transfer the Coloplast fee together with Eid's fee to Eid's bank account.

Is that what you ended up doing? Would be a much easier option to Wire Eid the money. Janice hasn't mention this option yet but I will ask. So far she only told me that "Coloplast is STRICTLY payable only by certified bank check".

Ask Eid's office for his bank routing number and his account number. Often you need the street address of the bank also to transfer the funds. Going by U.S. bank charges, if your U.K. bank charges similar, it would cost you about 36 euros fee to deposit the funds in Eids account. Get receipts so you have proof of transfer. The money would be certified in his account within 24 hours usually. 48 at most though I would assume lesser than 24 with time difference.

Eid's payment is not the issue as he accepts bank payments. It's still Coloplast as they only accept ceritified cheques. Eid cannot make the payment on my behalf so I have to do it directly. My bank is useless as they're saying that they don't write cheques in USD, however they told me that my wife's bank offers that service. So I'll try that. Fingers crossed. Who knew that paying for a service would be this difficult .. just take the damn money for God's sake

Where the hell do they get these damn fools that make these rules? Coloplast should be able to send you wire transfer information too. Take the money and be glad you have a paying customer. Good luck sir. You are earning it.

One of the corporate suppliers I have done business with since 1992 is owned by 3 chinese brothers. International conglomerate. First of 2014 they quit taking credit cards, credit accounts except multi million $ customers, you cannot pay when the truck picks up the order but instead have to wire the money to a New York Bank of America account, then make an appointment for the trucking company to pick up the order in 2-5 days. We used to call and place an order and tell them I was sending my company truck to pick it up with a company check. I always paid this way for a 2% discount. I was told they are doing this so they can transfer the cash out of the United States as fast as possible. What the hell? Now they've been calling me every month wanting to know why I am no-longer buying $50,000 a month of their product. Just because you made it a costly pain in the ass to pay? Surely that could not be it. Company is North American Pipe NAPCO, susidiaries Westlake Chemical, North American Pipe, Westech Building Products and a few others.
