Worst Pain EVER - Uribel

Postby palace01 » Sat Feb 20, 2016 1:11 pm

Implant performed last Friday Feb 12th.(AMS700CX)
Only problem was my inability to Pee for about 5 hours after the Catheter was removed.
On the following Tuesday I sent an email with pictures to my uro (Cornell) telling him that I continuously had Pain & Burning related to passing Urine.
His reply was " I'd like you to deflate the cylinders in the morning (today). This will help with both the swelling and the voiding."
"4" days Post Surgery I had no idea where to look for the pump and the more I looked the more tender it seemed.
Yesterday, "8" days Post-Op, I went to his office. He said he was very happy with everything - no infection - healing well etc.
BUT THEN.. He started searching for the pump to get me deflated !!!!
It took him a LONG time to find it never mind use it. I normally tolerate pain well, and took a Tramarol before seeing him, but, Anyone around downtown Houston at that time must have heard my screaming and yelling. He even tied one of his chairs to the wall so that I could grab it and not jump away from the pain. Years ago my first BM after hemorrhoid surgery was like giving birth to a hedgehog (porcupine). It's still vivid in my memory but deflation was FAR FAR worse.
When finished he looked at my cold sweaty face with a smile saying "Now why couldn't you do that on your own..." I JUST ABOUT managed a smile but almost threw the chair at him!
He told me that part of the problem was that the pump was hidden behind an area that was still pretty swollen and tender !

He still insists that all looks good without any infection, however any voiding attempts last night or today have 'still' caused pretty severe burning pain.
As I was leaving he prescribed Uribel for me. About $65, Insurance does not cover it, no generic, but I have found pretty good discounts on the Pharmacy "Coupon" sites.
Google Description of Uribel includes prescription medicine used to relieve the discomfort, pain, frequent urge to urinate, and cramps/spasms of the urinary tract caused by a urinary tract infection or a diagnostic. It is not an antibiotic.
AND..
This medication can cause urine and sometimes stools to turn blue to blue-green. This effect is harmless and will subside after medication is stopped, however, patients should be advised..

ANYBODY tried this ???
Thanks - Dave

Sorry to hear you had pain. I had nothing like you describe, however each of us heals and handles pain different. Less than an hour after Dr. Cornell took out my catheter I had voided and was on my way home. Don't remember any pain with urinating during my heeling process. Most pain I had was when the catheter was in, such a relief to have him remove it.

Have never had the occasion to be prescribed Uribel.

Welcome to the Bionic Brotherhood, it gets better every day.

Dave, My wife chuckled and said maybe it was a good thing the chair was still tied to the wall. My deflation also hurt some but it was the squeezing to get it flaccid , finding the pump , while not comfortable was not "screaming and whimpering" bad. As Ron said "each of us heals and handles pain different" and it won't be long the pain side of this will be a foggy memory. Hope you heal up quickly and the pain subsides. Use ice, Use ice, Use ice, . Good luck

I hope things get better soon. I can relate to the hedgehog. Had a hemorrhoidectomy surgery 3 years ago. Worst than that? I thought there was no such thing. Think of the stories you can tell the grandkids about the time your pee was blue.......
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

Alibaba - Have to admit that it was worse not helped by the fact that someone was directly doing it to me - and needed to do it !!
I started Uribel at the weekend - REALLY Good job that I'd read about the blue pee first! Quite a sight to see a hospital urinal full of Blue Pee....
Sincere Good luck to you - I'm keeping up with all of your storys
