Titan v AMS
Titan v AMS
Is one implant known for generally lasting longer then the other ?
Re: Titan v AMS
No, not generally.
I recall reading research where there is no difference in length of life found.
If you listen to a couple of the top implant surgeons however, they will claim Coloplast Titan has a superior build and durability.
One of them (Perito) even claiming on internet that AMS should be discontinued by authorities because of its substantial inferiority in reliability and life expectancy.
But one never knows the true reason behind statements like that. Neither behind 'objective' research publications nor top surgeon statements. Financial interest can always play a role, even where you least expect it.

I would say they should redesign the AMS. from the issues I have.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

The literature doesn't support one over the other with the current models. Discussions to the contrary seem like the over the top emotional discussions around having a Chevy versus Ford pickup or God forbid a Toyota Crewmax like I have. Everyone can cite a study or relative or best friend that supports what ever they believe. That said I would go with the one your doc uses and prefers and gets good results with. I did not even ask when I went into surgery to avoid pushing Dr Kramer toward a brand or model based on the fact I was a physician. Honestly they want to look good based on your results (with rare exceptions and there seem to be some here). Picking the right doc who does a lot to know what to do when your penis opened up has surprises. And a doc who isn't an egomaniac or has a bad bedside manner. There is no need to pick one or the other, talent or bedside manner/compassion. You can get both. Dr Kramer or Dr Eid to name two of the doc's discussed a lot here have both but there are others just not as visible on the Internet. Doc wayyyyyy more important than choice of brands I believe. Both brands will get the job done.
66 year old with ED intermittently for years and consistently for the 2 years before implant. Tried everything. AMS CX 21cm+1 cm RTEs Dr Kramer 4/29/2015.
Revision 5/3/2021 AMS CX 700 21cm+2 cm RTEs.
Revision 2022 Titan XL 24 cm no RTEs.

All of the top docs receive payments from the manufacturers for lectures and consulting. But the magnitude of Perito's payments from Coloplast is significantly higher than the payments that any of his competitors receive from either Coloplast or AMS. https://projects.propublica.org/docdoll ... /pid/38111 Now, I recognize that there may be a chicken/egg problem here. The reason that a doc may be asked to present or consult is not to "encourage" him to push the product but because he genuinely prefers it and uses it frequently. But, in light of the significant Coloplast payments to Perito, I would take what he says about the AMS product with a very large grain of salt.

The surgeons at Mayo in Minnesota are NOT allowed to receive kick-backs for the use of products.
You end up with the implant that they feel is best for your situation. In my case I am very happy with the outcome.
I do not know about the volume of surgeries that they do but I was not concerned with that.
There are surgeons that do a good job without being called 'high volume'.

My Urologist was Robert Kaplinsky of Uropartners. He used the Coloplast Titan Touch with Bioflex Zero Degree, for what that is worth to you.

Issues with an implant are often due to improper implantation. That written, I had a Coloplast Titan which my physician decided to replace with an AMS because one of the cylinders in the former developed a bulge. I've no problems with the AMS.
There were also report problems inflating the Coloplast One-Touch Release (OTR). I believe those issues have been resolved.

But doctors are often flown to fancy resorts in Honolulu, Las Vegas, the Virgin Islands, etc., for "training" or "informational meetings" by companies that want the doctors to use their products.

Back in the late 1990s there were with issues with the AMS cylinders degrading. My understanding is that the problem was corrected over 10 years ago. I'm not aware of any definitive research about one lasting longer than the other.
