Colonoscopy and auto-inflate?

Postby jonson » Tue Mar 01, 2016 9:13 am

I just realized that I have a colonoscopy scheduled in a few days and I remember that they pump you up with some kind of gas which I would think might put pressure on the reservoir. I am 3 months post-op and tend to auto-inflate a bit during the day and I don't want to sprout an erection during the procedure. Anybody have a colonoscopy and know what to expect? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks,

It happened to me, 2-3 weeks after I had received the implant. I told everyone, doc and nurses, about the implant. If I had an erection during the colonoscopy, so what? It's something different for a change. Nothing to worry about.

Unlikely that the pressure from colon inflation would cause auto inflation. I just had a colonoscopy in December and I let the intake nurse know I had an implant. She asked a couple of questions but was an oh well whatever moment. Then in room I was on my side and covered so the only draft was on my backside so doubt anyone would see until you are on your back post procedure and then still covered. Propofol was given to me and I was awake very quickly post procedure. Hope yours goes well for colonoscopy sake. Implant not likely to scare anyone.

I do not think it is possible to inflate you enough for that much pressure w/o severe pain and damage to your colon. I've had several colonoscopies. They don't blow you up like a balloon. Just enough that the intestine is open enough for the scope to view. Properly installed the reservoir is between muscle layers anyway. The muscle contraction is where auto inflate comes from. If the gas would inflate you then you would also inflate every time you have to poop in a bad way. No worries.

I once knew a nurse that worked in this area. In order to do so you need to be VERY broad minded and have a GREAT sense of humor. Don't worry about it. Most likely you don't have anything that they have not seen before. lol
