I have an appointment in 2 weeks to discuss having an implant at age 74. I have a very strong sex drive but can only have an orgasm by manual stimulation by myself or my wife. Very rarely is the erection sufficient for a brief penetration with manual support. I have tried Viagra and Cialis but get headaches. Neither of us like the VED results. My wife is on board with the idea of an implant; she's more ready than I am.
I still have my prostate and ejaculate after a delay. I occasionally get a soft woody in the night. Apart from ED, I'm in excellent health. I've read everything I can find re. implants on the board(s).
My question: Am I foolish to risk what I have to hopefully gain on-demand and sustainable erections? I'm very fearful of shortened length and loss of sensitivity and warmth in the glans.

Not at all! I am 73 and got implanted last year.
Pills quit working for me, injections didnt work, and we hated pumping.
I should have looked into an implant quicker than I did. I found out that Medicare and my supplement would pay for it!
You need to go for it as soon as possible. For me the surgery was 'a piece of cake'! The outcome was great.
My wife and I are happy. You may PM me if you have questions.

Re: Am I foolish?
I got my implant in October 2013 at the age of 71. I had now problems with it. It took about 6 months for everything to feel normal, although I started having sex sooner than that. I am now 74 and enjoying sex at least bi-weekly. My wife, 74 also, enjoys it as much as I. I found the ED thing for years. I wish I had had the implant 15 years ago. However, the devices are much better now. I have a Coloplast Titan. I may have lost a little length, but it was worth it. I gained some in girt.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
Re: Am I foolish?
By all means go ahead. I waited years after I first needed an implant before I got mine. As it turned out, we never used it - I had a stroke that took away my desire, and my wife had lost interest during the years of fumbling around with ED. I always advise men to get implants when they need them, and not to put it off. Nothing good happens with ED while you wait.
Dave, 80, Maryland - Implant (Titan) 2008 by Dr. Andrew Kramer (failed Sept 2020) - never used due to a stroke that, among other things, ended my sex life.

Hi Terry. My situation was similar to most here on the board, however, I am a little older at 83. Have had my implant about 14 months, and only wish I did it many years ago. Dr. Paul Perito of Coral Gables, Fl. did my implant. Very little pain, and no problems at all. Went in with 7" and came out with 7". It has been an absolute life changer for me. I went the usual route, ie, Viagra, Cialis, VED, edex, -- none of which worked very well. lots of headaches, etc.
I know some guys do have a problem, but having ED is no way to go. Hope this can be a life changer for you. Good Luck, and if you have any questions, PM me, and I'll be glad to answer.
Peace,
Charley

I'm only 58 so I can't address the age issue. I'll defer to my older FT brothers on that one. My strong suggestion is to make sure you go to a top reputable surgeon so it's done right the first time.

Re: Am I foolish?
Listen to your wife! I have regained intimacy with my wife big time after the implant. Intercourse was difficult and painful for my wife even before prostate cancer and radical prostatectomy. Now my erection is so much harder that it is actually enjoyable once again for her and my erection doesn't falter like it has for so many years. So, even if I hadn't had complete ED and nothing else worked, it would have made sense to do it years ago.
I see these devices becoming elective even for younger men who still have erectile function!

Re: Am I foolish?
In my opinion it definitely doesn't sound foolish,
Considering what level of ED you describe and your age - I would say you have a very favorable risk-to-reward ratio.
As has already been replied to you - my strongest advice is to not save on the last pennys or on the traveling distance. Find the doctor you believe is the best and go with him. Eid is my recommendation, but there are a couple of others with equally good reputation.
