I was told to limit lifting to 8 lbs or less for 6 weeks. What I did to compensate is to use my tens machine on the upper body, arms and lower legs, anything that would not tense the muscles in the abdominal area. It is easier to isolate the muscles laying down so I would do my tens exercises before I got out of bed and sometimes at bedtime ( though a couple times I woke up and still had the machine hooked up and running). Unless you have used a tens extensively or have a layer of body fat, I have found the cheap $30 9 volt tens/ems stimulaters effective. More experienced and you may need a commercial machine like I have but then you are spending hundreds. Some of the famous movie ninja fighters swore by their EMS gadgets. Having had many surgeries and sometimes finding it takes me months to get where I was, on occasion years, I was determined to not go backward. Still I was surprised how weak I was but in much better shape than after previous surgeries. I am today 63 days post surgery and think I have regained all my lost strength. I managed to maintain the chest and arms and lose none there. Ass abs and legs have suffered and the weight gain from doing little has hidden the fine detail I was getting to be quite proud of. That said, a body still needs energy to heal so you certainly can't starve it during healing, but lack of activity may need a little less than a normal full day. I tried to feed myself lots of protein for healing. Counting egg cartons ( we save and donate to a person who raises chickens and donates the eggs to homeless shelters) I see I ate 13 dozen eggs. Also ate 3 cakes and a pie and I NEVER eat sweets but hey, I just had me dick overhauled....
