From the AMS patient manual

Postby alibaba » Wed Mar 16, 2016 11:04 pm

Surprised patients are not given this manual. As with many Adobe files, it will not copy and paste on FT.
http://www.amselabeling.com/assets/file ... -TP_en.pdf
See on page 9, items numbered 1.7 and 1.8
I will bookmark the manual and read it if time permits.

I'm not sure if the blanket, sweeping statement "[s]urprised patients are not given this manual" is accurate. I believe routinely doctors provide patients with written information explaining many possible complications for surgery. The most common complication of course is infection. One paper I signed prior to surgery listed a dozen possible risks. I can't imagine any doctor not providing such information prior to surgery. Isn't doing so routine?

I dug out the patient guide my doctor gave me years ago, when I was implanted with a Coloplast device. The written guide stated:

"Each penile implant is custom fitted to your anatomy. Depending on your medical history, it may not be unusual to lose 1-2 cm. Discuss this in greater detail with your physician."

I did not receive such paperwork. Dr. told me when he showed up after multiple requests that I had an increased risk if infection, that all would not be lost as he would take it out and in 6 months see if he could install another device and my penis is going to be smaller and we are not going to discuss it. My paperwork all dealt with assignment of insurance, what they do if you don't pay and such. All they gave a damn about was $ form before they even let me make an appointment and they had it quickly. To be honest, they had me sign something about 30 seconds before I was rolled into surgery and I have no idea what it was. No copy of it in my record that I can find. Best as I can remember they said it was the authorization to do surgery. Rush university has made several calls wanting the money aspect taken care of before they gave me an appointment too. I would assume that if there were no guarantees up front, then no appointment. Local doctors are that way now. You have to give them a credit card to get in the door. No card or about $300 or more in cash, you cannot get past the receptionist. I've had 2 doctors refund what they put on my card after the insurance company paid but one I had to hound for 5 months to get the check from him.
Pulled the 3 pages out of the file that Vanderbilt had me sign. I had to sign under the following headings:
Consent for routine treatment
Guarantor Agreement
Children ( says the guarantee to pay also applies to children or any born while you are there)
Government Payer Certification ( if you have medicare or Medicaid or neither)
Agreement to Pay
Assignment of Benefits
Non-covered benefits ( stating you will pay whatever no-one else will).
Interestingly all these pages are back dated. I was in the state of Missouri on the date they have printed on the pages that I signed them. Here at least it would make the paperwork void.
