MEDIC ALERT

Postby 2451cs » Fri May 27, 2016 5:09 pm

I have AMS 700CX Penile Implant and AMS 800 Artificial Urinary Sphincter. Wondering if anyone here wears a medic alert tag and if so what did you have inscribed on it. I can just see wearing one and one of my grandchildren asking, at a family gathering,in a loud voice "Grandpa, what's a penile implant"?

I have the card that includes a diagram and description that came with my implant, and I keep it in my wallet where it can be easily seen.

I can clearly see where an alert might be helpful if you need cathetorization because it is not going to happen w/o activating the valve but I do not see any reason where a penile implant needs to be on it. Even with an MRI they can safely go to level 3 and not be an issue per label instructions. I am sure the sphincter would be the same with an MRI. It is possible if you need cathetorization they may notice you have 4 nuts, but maybe not. You could always tattoo it on your dick.

I was in an ER once and the doctor there asked what the "growth" in my scrotum was. (I performed a bit of medical continuing-education then.) ;)

Woke up from my IPP operation with a catheter and was partially inflated. The catheter was through my urethra and the valve was connected to the cylinders. Clearly two separate systems.

Unless you are inflated, the catheter should pass through the urethra.

Everybody wakes up from their dick implant surgery with a catheter. Please read the original post. The guy also has an artificial urinary sphincter. That is why the med alert might be a good idea. It is a hydraulic band that pinches off his urethra so he does not leak pee all the time. The dick implant should be no issue for him as it is not for you.

I recently had an operation on my Achilles tendon which required me to be flipped over after I was anesthetized. I had to mention that they be careful of my penis when they flip me over as the penis is not flaccid in the way that they are used to. I almost wish there was some instant identification easily found so that I don't have to say stuff like this to a staff who are not quite used to those types of issues further up the leg.

I have been on the table 1 time since my implant and yes, I wished it had a hole to hang it through! Doc commented I seemed tense! Ya.

In responding to your post, I forgot about the original post, where he has a urinary sphincter device also.

IMHO He needs to have the urinary sphincter device listed on a bracelet and on a card in his wallet.
