I came across these slides of a lecture presentation given on new drugs for Female Sexual Dysfunction:

It describes the how Addyi (flibanserin) and PT141 (bremelanotide) work in the nervous system to restore libido. I thought some here might find this interesting and helpful.

Given the heroic measures that most of us on this forum are employing to maintain our sex lives (all sorts and dosages of ED drugs, injections in the penis, scary and painful surgeries), taking a pink pill that has so far been shown to be benign seems pretty tame.

Finding ways to enable the continued enjoyment of a great and long sex life is what this forum is all about. Of all the good things in life, I think the pleasure and health of a wonderful sex life is worth quite a bit. Take the risk. It's so worth it. Enjoy the pleasure of a truly great sexual life!

I'm with DGMoore on this one. I would be opposed to my bride taking Addyi. The drug has been a bust for several reasons: it's expensive, it's not particularly effective, it comes with a host of possible side effects, and a woman must cease ALL consumption of alcohol while taking the drug. Wow! Those articles are scathing all right. In fact, maybe, a little too scathing. I wonder if there would be this kind of vicious press if the drug was promoted by a big pharma company like Pfizer. Kind of doubt it.

Addressing the criticisms leveled in the articles: effectiveness, cost, alcohol. Our experience:

1. Effectiveness - We can only speak to our own real life experience and it works great. I can only guess that if articles like those don't completely run off the public, many, many more reports of success and effectiveness will start to pop up like popcorn.

2. The cost isn't even close to what the articles were saying. Any sane company knows that having anywhere around the cost figures cited in those articles would make the drug prohibitive and guarantee failure. For the past several months we've been paying $20/month. This is more than likely a promotional price, but no doubt the cost will never be as insane as the articles suggest. Truthfully, given how much money people on this forum are spending on ED drugs, injections, and, of course, fabulously expensive surgery, this is "chump change." How much money is a really good sex life worth to us?? Given the posts here - A whole lot!!

3. Alcohol- My wife and I don't do any intoxicants at all, so, this no-alcohol advice was no problem. However, the no-alcohol requirement is because Addyi lowers blood pressure as does alcohol and one's BP might get too low. This is the same no-alcohol caution and for the same reason as viagra and cialis. During the Addyi trials, 17% of alcohol users had BP trouble with taking Addyi. Alcohol has always been a problem if you want great sex. It numbs up all the needed nerves. If one has a low BP problem then, perhaps, a decision has to be made: great sex or taking alcohol.

My wife and I call our sex life our "Drug of Choice." It gets us high as a kite with big smiles and it's super healthy physically, mentally and you don't need to find a "designated driver" afterwards.
