Titan OTR Premature Failure
Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
I have an LGX but it doesn't matter, it is a mechanical device, or at least the pump is, and it will fail at some time or other just like the OTR. But I look at it this way. All of us implantees went through hell with ED and finally got a cure. Over time, as Merrix posted a while ago, we got over the old fears of failing and came understand and have confidence in the fact that your erection will be there when you want it to be. Worry time is over right? So why do you need something new to worry about? I might get only 5 years instead of 10, I should reduce my pumping. Have less sex, the implant will last longer. I say use the thing you fought so hard and long to get and cross the component failure bridge when you get to it. If a little extra length is important to you and you think it will bring you greater satisfaction, then pump away. Enjoy the journey. Fuck, life is too short to worry about something that might happen 5 or 10 years from now. If you are a young guy, it might concern you a bit, but I still say the same thing. Enjoy the thing.
Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
A final post in this debate from my side:
As always, and as I said in my long post above, there are always contradicting information/views/opinions/speculation/'facts' coming up in these discussions.
I talked to one famous doc who does a lot of Titan implants. To date this guy has done several hundreds of Titan Touch pumps and has had zero (0) failures so far. He's had a few OTR pump failures where the deflation valve has get jammed, but no failures of the Touch model.
This doesn't rhyme very well with some other posts earlier in this post. And that's where we'll often end up here. Contradictory information. Everyone must take their own responsibility and try to get information from as many sources as possible and evaluate all information to best ability,
However, in my case, two things made me change my mind since last post.
1 - The Doc. He's been the best in every way in my process. All he's said so far has came true. I choose to trust him in this case as well.
2 - Watsup. Your comment really made sense, and was one of those rare ones where it triggered the right points in my brain.
I am back to the cycling routine I think makes me feel good. Potential failure risk is of course still there, and I still think it is in some way related to frequency of usage. But what the heck, the implant is there to use and to help me catch up for lost time.

Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
My add ( sorry for bad english). while ago I wrote to garber because surely he done many coloplast, I said that I have Otr touch coloplast and asked his opinion about the failure . he replied that it is not failure but just pseudo malfunction and send me the paper with article. He said The problem is for both otr and touch. one person here has reported had genesis pump for fear of failure From garber. But Yesterday I spoke with a member here who just two days ago received the Otr touch pump from garber, and he reassured the patient about them. so also I believe there is so much alarmism. certainly it can fail, but I want to enjoy it without thinking negative. My friend in my city had coloplast touch too, from 2 + 1/2 years without problem. certainly if it was a true disaster, coloplast would call back touch pump for older ( Otr Standard or genesis Pump). Touch pump was inaugurated November 17, 2013. three years are enough to understand If the pump is a disaster ...
enjoy it !!
enjoy it !!

Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
I am the 'one member here' who was just installed 9/6 with the OTR pump. I did specifically ask about the issue and the doc (Garber) was reassuring. I think I need to trust the Dr when it comes to this decision, he has done thousands and has a great reputation. I understand that he has a close affiliation with Coloplast, but I am reluctant to believe he would knowingly risk his reputation by installing defective products.

jimp444 wrote:Had a Coloplast Titan implanted by Dr. Garber in April 2016. As I read the post-op surgical notes, I saw that a Coloplast Titan with Genesis pump had been used. When I met with the doc on a follow up exam I asked why he didnt use an OTR Touch pump. He replied that in his opinion those pumps had become problematical and often failed, so he isn't using them any longer. While I was disappointed at first as the OTR Touch seemed simpler to use, I am very glad that my surgeon was aware there could be a failure and so avoided using the OTR Touch model with it's potential problems.
Another good reason (IMO) for seeking out a volume surgeon who specializes in implants.
Jim - I totally understand people who don't spend their entire time doing research and becoming some sort of implant-expert. Guys who just get it fixed and focus on using it instead.
But nevertheless, since your confusing post may give people the wrong ideas, or understanding, let me point out a few contradictions.
First, according to my best knowledge (which of course could be wrong as well, if so, someone correct me please!), there is no such thing as an OTR Touch pump. One model is called 'OTR', which stands for One Touch Release. The next model from Coloplast, which replaced the OTR, was Titan Touch. Hence, you cannot have an OTR Touch. You either have an OTR or a Touch.
Second, in your post you describe how you got a Genesis pump installed. But in your signature you still say you have a Titan OTR. Which is it?
Again, no offense here, but since a lot of people read this forum to accumulate knowledge, knowledge which later may support them in making huge decisions, I think it is of some importance that we get it right.

Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
Merrix, just a clarification . certainly the name of new pomp is "touch" , but many patients and surgeon still call it " Otr" because this new pump (touch) keeps the "one touch release" sistem. in fact I call it "otr touch" . Many users here have written in their profile (coloplast otr surgery done on xxxxx...) but this is the " touch". From november 2013 it's sure the touch model....

Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
Hello All: I have the Titan OTR 22 cm installed by Dr Eid Feb 2015. All is well and operating fine and really enjoying the implant. I have contributed a few posts, however not much to report. My recovery was fairly uneventful, and while the discomfort and slight pain/sensitivity to touch lasted a bit longer than expected, swelling was minimal and I was "test driving " at 5 weeks. Also as an observation, I gained about 0.5 in in length . Not sure how or why, but maybe the continued cycling to the max ( 5-6 time / week) has stretched things out a bit. Wondering what the heck is the Titan Touch. Can someone explain ? Maybe in the last year and a half a new version was released. Thanks

Re: Titan OTR Premature Failure
I dunno! I just went to the current Coloplast USA site and they list two implants; Titan and Titan OTR. The only difference between the two seems to be the pump/valve assembly with the Titan OTR showing the pad with two side by side buttons and the Titan with offset buttons. That and the list of available options seems slightly different. The don't advertise a Titan Touch on their website.
