What about the glans?

Postby oddjob » Sat Sep 10, 2016 5:36 pm

I am 6 weeks post-op and have been cycling my implant daily since week 5...but I have noticed that although my penis gets very hard, the glans remain soft.

Prior to my implant surgery, I used Viagra, Levita, and even the urethral suppositories...and on a good day, I would get a firm erection with fully engorged glans, but the pills stopped working and my only option was the penile implant.

Now with the implant, I can get a very good erection, but no engorgement of the glans...the AMS 700 LGX does extend partially into the glans, but the glans remains "cold" and doesn't not engorge.

Am I asking too much, or is this common with the penile implants?

The glans is erectile tissue (different from the shaft's corpora cavernosa), but erectile nonetheless. If the pills stopped working on the glans before, replacing the corpus cavernosa will not change that. There is no glans implant in the medical toolbox.

So, yes, this is common. More than common, it is to be expected.

The good news is that when stimulated, (as in having intercourse) the glans can get engorged, even in a man wherein the shaft does not. You may not have noticed before whether your glans responded to stimulation or not. But now, when you have sex, you may find that it always did.

In other men, glans engorgement does not take place and they may be benefited in that area by oral medications, even where the meds did not work in the shaft.

6 weeks post-op is a bit soon to see results, but asking your doctor will be a good idea.

Good luck.

I do have left over Viagra and Levitra pills...are you saying that these MAY still give me glans engorgement, given that the glans does not receive its blood from the corpus cavernosa, but instead from the corpus spongiosum...?

Just found this study result...12 out of 13 patients reported that 100mg of sildenafil (Viagra) taken 45 minutes prior to "pump up" of the three piece penile implant reported easier penetration and more pleasurable intercourse...

Definitely am thinking of giving this a try, as my next uro visit is not until 26 Septmber...

My glands to engorge some of the time without any of the pills. I had some left over Viagra and I gave it a try about months after the implant and they did engorge.

As you probably know, erections are facilitated by blood engorging the "coprora cavernosa", of which there are 2 of them. This is where they install the implant.
There is a 3rd erectile tissue chamber which is the corpus spongiosum. It runs along the bottom of the penis and it is the tissue that allows the glands to engorge.

Basic rule of thumb is as long as the surgery is done correctly, whatever blood flow you had to your glans pre surgery, you should have post surgery.

I tried the Viagra last night and did not experience glans engorgement...

Kind of bummed as my orgasms prior to the implant surgery were primarily heightened by my engorged glans...

Of course, at 6 weeks post-op, it may be too early to say that it won't come back with time..

Will definitely discuss this at the uro follow up on 26 September.
