surefire way of inflating a new implant

Does anyone have a surefire way of inflating a new implant, i.e., AMS 700? I've tried everything and can't the bulb to fully compress. After about 40 mins of trying, i get about 60% pumped. So i know the partial pumps are working. I go back on Thurs., 12/15/16, for a 2nd visit. The urologist pumped me up at the 3-week mark. This is really frustrating. I can't believe how difficult they make these things to inflate. So if anyone knows how to inflate, please advise, thanks.

That sounds so familiar! Hard on the scrotum skin!! Yes the AMS 700 series pump is very difficult to pump up when it is new. It feels just like a solid rock and like you I wondered it had to be so darn hard. But it does get easier with time. At 1 1/2 years post op it is now quite easy. Personally I don't often try for the full flattening of the bulb on each pump but use shallow pumps. I get better control on the inflation rate that way and while it takes a little longer, it works in the end.

Try using two hands if you are not already and stick with the small pumps.

I had the same issue with my AMS and could pump 150 pumps seemingly getting nowhere. Another doctor 3 hours away tried it but it would still be flexible when he was done. Went to another doctor 8.5 hours away and he was rough with it but got it to work 2 times in a row. Next day it didn't for me. It was still glitchy for months but more consistent now. I will be 11 months in 3 more days. At first ONLY a really hard Fast, give it all you've got initial pump would make it work. I do not have to start out as intensely now. Hope this helps.

Watsup & Alibaba, thanks for the replies... at least i know i'm not imagining things... good to know pumping will get easier.. is there any reason pumping is so difficult to begin with?... I was afraid b/c in AMS's illustrated instructional video, the man is using just 2 fingers to easily pump up his new device, which appeared to have almost no resistance; which you guys are correctly pointing out is not really the case. I may try again. About every 20th pump, i can feel the bulb compressing. Thanks again.

My surgeon says it is not necessary to completely flatten the bulb with each squeeze. Just give it a squeeze and repeat. Once you're inflated the bulb will get hard.

For a while, I was accidently resting my fingers against the edge of the deflate valve and unknowingly releasing saline. I could pump 40-50 wall to wall pumps and keep going. Once I got my finger in a better position, away from the button, 15 pumps are pretty tough for me to complete.

Thanks for the tips... it's working better... but i'm stuck at the 4 7/8" mark. I was 5.5" pre-op. If i'm pumping & not seeing any improvement, does that mean this is max? or keep pumping until when? thanks.

TYou may be feeling the end of a scar tissue capsule that formed post-op. Or, if you had E.D. for a long time before the implant, you may have lost some elasticity over time.

Both these conditions can be resolved over several mopnths with careful management of inflation and management of discomfort. You don't want to overdo the stretching, but you don't want to allow the (shorter) condition to become permanent, either.

A protocol of daily inflation for anywhere between 10 minutes to a couple of hours once or twice a day has been described in various posts I have read in this forum. I hope some of the men who have done this and made those posts will respond to this thread and provide copious detail.

Interestingly enough, Dr. Kramer wasn't a big advocate of long daily inflation. He said 5-10 minutes was good and I had told him I was doing 2x a day. He knew length was a concern to me and suggest that I pump, wait a minute and then put in a few more pumps to get maximum benefit.

Jonbald (& anyone else), how do u know when to stop pumping? Is it when more pumps don't do any good? or how do u know? thanks
