Charlie, I am facing a similar problem myself. My implant is just two years old and no longer works. Problem seems to be the pump. It has stopped working four or five times in the last three months. It has totally quit working since then. Now when I pump in an attempt to get an erection the pump goes partially flat. The rods in my penis are just a empty as before I pumped.

I am hoping for just a pump replacement but that will be up to the urologist. Won't be till Feb. at the soonest probably as my wife is scheduled for a knee replacement. She won't be able to drive for at least four and maybe six weeks.

Will see my urologist next week.

They absolutely should be able to replace the pump if it is what is damaged. Unless the cylinders are damaged then they can stay put. All they have to do is splice the tubes of the new pump to the existing tubes of the cylinders and reservoir.

Hey Jim,

I expected a walk in the park, but I am actually quite sore. Couldn't pee within the expected amount of time so they put a catheter in and damn, that hurt. I will keep it in overnight and go in at 9:00 tomorrow morning to see the doctor.

I haven't poked around a lot down there, but I did check and the pump is down low. I will get around to checking the rest, probably before seeing the doc tomorrow. Thanks for asking.

Charlie - sorry to hear about your implant failure. Mine is still working, but barely, and not as good as I would like. Dr Brady - uro in Orlando - consulted and advised I would need a complete replacement. Hate to think of going thru that again, but guess I will have to bite the bullet soon. Sure hope you can get by with only bulb replacement. Let us know as you go. We will all be pulling for you.

Blessings,

Charlie

Charlie 999,

They say a replacement is not as traumatic as the first implant and I would guess that replacement of a bulb would be a simple thing to do, super simple. Snip the tubes, put in a new bulb and splice it in, but I'm just guessing at what's involved.

Dr. Kramer had said he could lower my pump in 5 minutes and I believe he was planning to add a little tubing and splice it in. I'm pretty sure that is what he had in mind. I had my revision done closer to home though by Dr. Dean Knoll in Nashville. He took a different approach which involved removal of scar tissue and a sac that builds up around the pump as it heals. He also opened a part of the corpora and took the existing tubing out, freeing it up to allow the pump to ride lower. He then stitched the pump in place so it wouldn't migrate. SO, that was a different approach to my revision and believe me, it wasn't easier than the original procedure. I have significant swelling and discomfort, but you'd expect that when cutting out and removing tissue, plus internal incisions are involved. It's going to take a while to feel normal after this, but I think this should turn out well. This approach eliminated the need for additional tubing and splices which could have its own set of problems if there were failures later at the splices.

Only time will tell if this approach was best. But I say again, most guys on this board feel that a replacement is less traumatic than the original surgery. I wish you the best.

Charlie and the other Charlie, Sorry about your issues. I had a revision , complete replacement of my 1 year old AMS CX due to poor tip placement and severely a undersized implant, by Dr. Kramer in Baltimore. It was a walk in the park compared to the original surgery. I took only 1 or 2 pain pills, did not need to use ice, laid around the next day and on the 2nd day after surgery I went into town on the city bus. Was able to have intercourse at about 2 weeks out, tips are very nicely positioned and the new implant is 2" longer than the original so everything is nicely supported. Discuss plans with the Dr. and get the most experienced and most successful Dr. that you can afford and your chances of being satisfied will be improved.
Good luck

William,

One of the reasons yours went so well is that Dr. Kramer is fast and very skilled at operating in the least traumatic way. He is very good at getting the tips up far enough in the glans too. When I had my original implant with him, I didn't have the swelling that so many people have and that had worried me going into this. He told me that wouldn't happen there and it didn't. I believe he must have a gift for doing his procedures with as little trauma as possible.

Jon, I think you are very correct. I think that besides know what he is doing , he is a gifted surgeon and very gentle so that no excess trauma is caused. He sure gets my vote and recommendation.

So interestingly enough- I watch Kramer's video's religiously, and emailed about one things the other day-- this issue of a "high pump." I guess he never paid attention to it, or never felt a need to address it head-on, he told me he strive for all the length he can get, with minimal reartips, and if the pump sits a little high, he never really heard complaints till lately.

Anyway in videos and what he told me, he tunnels it through a little window or tongue of tissue, through a tight space, that locks it into position in that low down position. Said for a couple months at least every pump is way low, doesn't move higher, he "solved" that infrequent but present issue he'd been having with that somewhat high pump. Anyway, thought I'd let the Brotherhood know. He seems to have moved on from whatever issue that was, it's in his videos, he tucks it through some little tissue window and it stays down. Problem solved.
