How to travel with Trimix.

Postby Tallboy57 » Thu May 25, 2017 8:17 pm

Hello gents another newbie question. My wife and I are taking the Daughter and her two girls to Florida for a week. How do I travel with my mix? My thoughts are to freeze it here in Houston and buy a travel cooler for the plane flight a small one I have seen them at Walmart and other places. I am guessing from Houston to Orlando and get checked in say 5-6 hours. Any tips or input would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Tall boy

As an alternative, you might want to do a search on this site for "Frio." It's an option that doesn't require ice.
Eugene, Oregon, USA. Born 1941. Married 1968. ED since mid-1990s. Began trimix January 2014. Dosage gradually increased over time. Added cock ring in 2016. After dosage reached 30 units, switched to quad mix in May 2018. On blood pressure meds.

I second the Frio. Just this week I was able to keep my Trimix in the car (windows down 75 degrees) for over 8 hours with no ill effect. The hassle with air travel with a cooler is that you may get check by TSA and they will likely inspect your ice packs to make sure they are frozen. Not a big deal but a hassle none the less.
Suffered with ED for most of my life. Viagra then to Trimix then implanted 3/8/2018 with AMX 700 CX 21cm with 1cm RTE. 50 years old Urolift procedure performed 30 day prior to my implant surgery.

I have kept my Trimix bottle unrefrigerated for well over two weeks with no detectable change in its effectiveness.

We travel several times a year, sometimes overseas. I got a Medicool kit. It is what diabetics use to travel. You freeze the trimix and the plastic container for 8 hours before you leave. I put mine in checked bag, so clothes help insulate. Most hotels these days have a mini fridge or you can buy cheap cooler when you get there.

dtwarren,
You kept it unrefrigerated for 2 weeks and it still works? Wow. That is comforting to know in case my luggage gets lost. My uro said he was more concerned about bacteria if trimix got warm than loss of potency.

I second the Frio. Google it. It works. You can also put the trimix in a small thermos and fill it with ice. No trouble passing through TSA checkpoints with ice in a thermos. The first time I tried it I showed it to a TSA rep and he said no problem.

If you don't get the Frio also pack a very small collapsible cooler to use while you're on vacation.
I've tried everything -- pills, injections pumps -- and now I am at the final frontier.

Frio is designed (primarily) for insulin which doesn't need to be kept frozen. Check out references to how long Trimix can be effective defrosted. I wanted to be a little more sure and I found this item on Amazon:

PackIt Freezable Lunch Bag with Zip Closure
Here's a link
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJ8DFGC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is a lunch bag with ice-pack gel sewn permanently into it, so all you do is freeze the entire bag. No problem getting through security (although I've not had any problems with any cooler/package - just tell them it's injectable medication). But the back is so large relative to a vial or two of Trimix, you can just put the vials in and it will stay cold for a very long time.

A little cheaper than the Frio, although a Frio will last several days.

Good post, Ron. However, Trimix doesn't have to be kept frozen either. Many pharmacies even recommend that it be kept refrigerated. I think the goal with traveling with Trimix is simply to keep it cool enough to avoid deterioration.

Sorry I wasn't clear on the frozen aspect - you are correct. The cooling bag I mentioned does not keep vials frozen, but it does keep them cooler than a Frio. But I've read that Trimix only gradually loses potency - it doesnt suddenly "expire" , so just keeping it cool with any method listed above should be OK.

I personally would like to thank all the contributors to this forum - invaluable information not easily found elsewhere.

Ron
