Decided to go for it. Help, advice, and support is appreciated.

Postby matprov » Thu May 25, 2017 12:56 pm

I decided to do it this June with Dr. Kramer, I hope all works well with him and I am able to finalize reservations.

The moment I decided I began to feel a little depressed knowing that it's no going back after the implant. I am extremely worried and afraid of complications.

Not sure which device to go for as well. People praise and complain of both major brands.

Your best wishes and advice please.

Dr. Kramer is the best...discuss both brands w/ him & ask for his recommendation. As far as being "depressed knowing that it's no going back after the implant": just what do you have to go back to??? More ED? I think almost everybody here will tell you that they're sorry they didn't make the move years ago, including yours truly. I love my AMS 700 LGX...Dr. Kramer & his entire team did an absolutely fantastic job for me...

I too have the LGX and love it. Dr. Kramer is the best and is always there for me. I watched videos, read everything here I could and talked with him on phone. Go to Youtube and watch lots of previous implants. Sending you a PM
Implanted March 2nd by Dr. Kramer with AMS/LGX. Had a problem lower left (scar tissue) and he placed a larger (thicker) implant as you can here on the YouTube video. Got all back, ED over 10 years before Implant.

You're going to one of the top two or three surgeons, so there's nothing to worry about.

As for "going back", I wish I'd gotten an implant decades ago when my normal penis was still functioning. To be able to stay erect for hours has its advantages. ;)

"The moment I decided I began to feel a little depressed knowing that it's no going back after the implant. I am extremely worried and afraid of complication "

This is why I believe psychological support is very important. You will need to make mental adjustments to the implant being a part of your life and as to what impact it will have on it. Don't let the fear of physical hurdles get you down. Take things one at a time and work each one out individually without looking back . Just keep looking at the positives of succeeding.
65 Periodic ED since 20's due to venous leakage. Pills stopped working . Implanted 3/2012 removed 6/2012 in a"WTF Moment" after several complications. Re-implanted 4/5/19 AMS 700CX

What are some of the physical hurdles so I can better prep for them?

Thanks

It took me 2 years to get my head around the idea there is no going back. Once I had and found a doctor willing to do the job, I was completely at ease with that part. Having an implant made me wish I had known they existed years before and had gotten one. They move a stress level from around 500 down to about 10. Best of luck you sir. Dr. Kramer is a nice guy and tries to be very accommodating. Made it a pleasant experience for me.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

I had problems with a mass of something in my scrotum around the pump. It freaked the hell out of me I was so fearful of infection. It was still there when the implant was removed but was not infection. I think it was something to do with water . I had a lot of water in sacs under the skin of my penis which eventually drained. Another problem was comfort. I could never get the Titan to fully drain. I would get it in the flaccid state then it would slowly partially inflate. It was a little uncomfortable and I kept focusing on it. Coupled with job stress it was driving me nuts . I turned very negative to it . I now see that I was too critical maybe because I still hoped for a miracle I would find a way for erections without it. I must of had underlying fears of being stigmatized. Terms like prosthesis sent a chill down my spine. Perhaps I wasn't as ready for it as I thought. Looking back the LGX might have been better for me because of it's more natural flaccid state. It's been five years now and I understand how all of these things led me to rejecting it. I never lost the desire for sex and believe that I am truly ready for it now. Probably in Oct. after I get a few things out of the way this summer. Just understand that you may get negative over things but don't let it dominate your thought process, remember the advice from others how they got through this.

Many men have, in the past, posted lengthy and detailed journals of their implant and recovery experiences. They are perhaps unlikely to fully repeat themselves in answer to your question, and you will never get a tenth of the information you will get if you take the time to start delving into the archives here and reading those detailed experience reports. Try a search on the words "journey" or "journal" - that will bring up most of the more detailed threads. Start reading.

You will read some horror stories. Do not despair. These do not represent the majority of outcomes, or even a likely outcome. As you can well imagine, a dissatisfied patient is far more likely to post at length about their situation than someone who had an unremarkable recovery and just goes on with their life - such a person would need to be civically minded and generous enough to report their good experiences for the sake of others. Not all would bother - ie the majority of implantees.

Be guided by others in matters such as choice of surgeon. Be guided by your own careful research and dispassionate assessment of your available options when determining whether to go ahead in the first place - not the opinions of others (implanted, or not). Understand the risks, rewards and limitations of the procedure and the device. Once your mind is made up, be resolute in your assessment of the situation and start looking ahead, not backwards.

You also need to do your reading here on the two brands of implant. They are interchangeable to a degree but each has advantages and disadvantages. Even then, it is not so simple as just choosing which are more important to you. Your own anatomy matters, from all reports (I have a titan, have never had AMS so can't speak from experience - my titan hasn't even been activated yet). The bottom line seems to be that the AMS provides a softer more natural flaccid, but that the device is best suited to men of average or smaller endowment for a number of functional reasons. The coloplast device provides a less natural and less comfortable flaccid but may provide - in some men - a better functional erection outcome. There is also the issue of the pathology you have - if there are issues like peyronies, scar tissue or malformation, one device or the other might be the better fit for your exact circumstances. The surgeon's experience is all that can help you there.

You may need to choose between those, but you should be strongly guided by your surgeon's opinion. Two reasons - if the surgeon says you have a longer or thicker penis which would be more functionally stable or better retain your prior dimensions with a titan then you should probably pay attention to that. If you are an average dude and the surgeon says the AMS would provide the best overall outcome functional and aesthetic, you should listen to that. If the surgeon says s/he generally only installs one brand, find out why. Listen to that also. Do not try to strongarm your surgeon into changing brands from that s/he recommends - if you want the other brand for some strong reason, seek out a surgeon experienced in installing many of that brand.

Your head is actually more important here than anything that happens between your legs. What most of us are seeking to cure is not just our ED but the wretched mental state it has induced.

Here is an example of the kinds of thing that may start occurring in your head. I've been increasingly affected for 25 years. In recent years, I gave up on sex. I turned to porn. I would skip over scenes that upset me - such as cowgirl scenes. I knew on my best day, my malfunctioning dick would never permit it - in fact, my first failure at age 18 or 19 was in just that position. Neither I nor my (similarly young) partner comprehended what had happened or why. It never really worked again. I was mostly limited to doggy style where I could spend the whole time concentrating visually and mentally on keeping it up. I couldn't mentally place myself in that actor's role so I skipped those scenes and looked for doggy scenes after I turned to porn.

Since the implant (yet to be activated) I have watched some porn. I watched some cowgirl scenes. It didn't sadden me. It excited me to think that in a few months I will be able to do exactly that. To imagine how that will feel. These are the thoughts you need to encourage, they are capable of driving out the fear and making your focus an anticipatory excitement. Makes the surgical ordeal much easier to take too. My head isn't full of dread and self loathing now, 2.5 weeks post surgery. It is full of excitement that the long nightmare will soon be over - and that I will shortly have a lot more hard drive space free, because I'll be out screwing, not sitting in front of my telly like a sad bastard. Focus on the life change, the good that will come of your decision, not all the things that could (and probably won't) go wrong.

There will be some pain and discomfort, and there will be a rehab process. Accept this is the short-term price to be paid for the long-term outcome. Think in the long term.

Read matprov. Read as much as you can. Assess your options. Once the exercise is complete and you know all you need to know, make your decision and do not resile from it or second guess. You can stay how you are, you can go backward, or you can put your chin up and press onward. If there are other options to move forward, by all means exhaust them before you turn to the implant. If other things were working well however, I assume you wouldn't be here considering an implant.

There are no miracle cures in the pipeline. I know, I've spent twenty years researching and reading journal articles - many of them breathlessly proclaiming future cures, or in the case of self interested surgeons, cure rates for experimental surgeries that turn out to be "optimistic" ("bullshit" is another, perhaps more appropriate, description). In that 20 years, nothing useful has eventuated other than the sudden appearance of viagra and the like (which don't reliably work for everyone, nor reliably work longterm even for those with initial good response). Don't expect that "miracle drug" event to happen twice in the near future. There are no new miracle drugs on the horizon, the experimental surgical techniques routinely underwhelm in reality and hopeful new options like stem cells and regenerative medicine are in exactly the same basket as nuclear fusion reactors - enormous promise that is 30 years away from realisation - with nuclear scientists promising that same thing every year for the last 30 years.

You only get so many trips round the sun. Do you have years or decades to comfortably wait for something better? None of us do, even the younger men. Bear that in mind and make the best call you can with what you have to work with - but first you have a lot of reading to do.

Good luck.
