Force required to compress pump

Postby bill1200 » Thu Oct 20, 2011 11:58 am

Would like to know from others who have AMS implants how much pressure it takes to depress the bulb(inflate cylinders). I am 10 days out with CX. Started inflation/deflation 3x/day as instructed. It takes so much pressure, I have to squeeze it betwen the knuckle of my thumb and the knuckle of my index finger. My scrotum is bruised and very sore. There is no way I can even begin to depress it between the pad of the thumb and index finger as demonstrated in the AMS literature. The demonstration/ practice bulb depresses much, much easier. I realize the practice bulb is easier because you are not pumping against resistance, but this seems excessive. Thanks,Bill

I had no problems with mine as I practiced with those stress squeeze thingies prior to surgery. I can inflate with one hand using my thumb and pointer but sometimes the pump slips. So it is easier for me to hold it with one hand and pump with the other. Once you break it in, it is easier.

at 10 days, I am pretty sure I could not have pumped much. I think you will find that when the swelling goes down, it will be much easier. For me this took time, about 3-4 weeks before the scrotum walls thinned so that pumping was easy. Be patient.

Thanks for the response, let me clarify. The swelling from surgery was very minimal. The swelling I'm referring to resulted from the amount of force it took to squeeze the bulb. I called AMS patient liason yesterday. She said that was "normal" and that it probably won't get easier with time. So I guess I'll get used to it and the skin will toughen up in time. Just didn't expect it to be so hard to depress the bulb. Also it takes about 20 pumps to get rock hard. Went for another little mini-test drive last night. What a pleasure to know it will be hard as long as we want it to be. Wife is having a great time. Cheers, Bill

Hey Bill, I'm glad to see you are enjoying it. I have a Titan and it's WAY harder to pump when new. The material these pumps are made from are generally very stiff and hard to manipulate when new. Post back in a year, after several hundred cycles and tell me how much easier it is then. It will soften up over time...

Now that's funny shit. "after several hundred cycles" you must have read my other post :)
Anyway, I sure hope so. Scrotum was so tender the other day, even though we wanted to use it, it was just too damn tender to even try to pump the bulb. Thanks.

Mine is sore like that right now. I had a new pump installed this past Friday and I can't do anything with it. I expect it'll be that way for a month or two. It was relocated to another area in the back of my scrotum. it takes practice to develop a technique for pumping up efficiently AND using efficiently.

I have a ams700 ms and i been inflating since week 2 and am at week 6 now and that pump hasn't gotten any easier at first i felt like i needed a pair of pliers ......this is what i received from lgx_man who has proved to be very helpful and knowledgable....Enclosed is the standard User’s Guide for your general reference.

However, you may prefer to use both hands (left-hand thumb over right-hand thumb on front side of the inflate bulb, with left-hand index finger over right-hand index finger on back side of the bulb) to squeeze the inflate bulb HARD/FAST to “pop” the valve into the inflate position, rather than just using one hand on the inflate bulb. This method will stabilize the inflate bulb between your fingers and provide you with double the squeeze strength.

Be sure that after each complete squeeze of the inflate bulb, you relax your fingers and allow the bulb to refill. To give slight, partial squeezes will only increase greatly the number of squeezes you have to give the pump bulb because you’ll be pushing very little fluid into the cylinders with each little squeeze.

After the initial very HARD/FAST squeeze of the pump to activate it, each subsequent squeeze of the inflate bulb is done with firmness.
Follow the deflate instructions as shown in the AMS 700MS User’s Guide.
