Who has had an MRI with an implant?
Who has had an MRI with an implant?
Several phone calls back and forth for more information today. Radiology is "uncertain" whether they can do an MRI with an implant. Cards from implant manufacturer say they can with limitations. The gal tonight told me they do them all the time but are uncertain about my model.

Re: Who has had an MRI with an implant?
I've had one. My implant surgeon ordered one after my implant developed a leak.
Re: Who has had an MRI with an implant?
I had an MRI not long after I got an implant in 2002. In the waiting room I was given a form to fill out, and one of the "Do you have..." items was "penile implant." I checked "yes," and was quietly taken back to a private area. I gave the tech the implant card that I always carry in my wallet and she took a copy of it, front and back. She told me, "I know it doesn't have any metal in it but we've got to ask." I wasn't sure what that meant. Maybe implants years ago had metal in them? (I never found out.)

I had an MRI of my left hip last year. I told the operator and there were no issues.....

I had an MRI on Monday, and didn't mention the implant. i didn't think it would explode, and the tech didn't ask about it.
Re: Who has had an MRI with an implant?
I had an MRI of lower spine with my Titan in place. I had a document from Coloplast affirming that it is "MRI safe." I don't recall where I got the document, but in any case there was no issue with the MRI.

Re: Who has had an MRI with an implant?
Another day, still do not think they can do it. WTF? Card clearly states what level settings to run the blasted machine. d

The letters proving that the device is OK for MRI scanning can be downloaded from Dr. Eid's website.
The link for the coloplast safety letter is:
https://www.urologicalcare.com/upload/iblock/89f/MRI-Compatibility-Letter-(Coloplast).pdf
The link for AMS devices safety letter is at:
https://www.urologicalcare.com/upload/iblock/9a1/AMSMRILetter.pdf
Basically, both letters from coloplast and AMS state that it is safe for Penile implant patients to have MRI scans.
Some MRi centers might require that you have the operative report proving that you have a device from a particular manufacturer (eg, Coloplast letter for Titan patients and AMS letter for AMS CX patients), but I think that most will take your word for it especially if you give them or fax them the letter.
good luck.....TANGERINE
