To make a simple answer, as long as you need to. Me, I didn't wear a jockstrap. I used fairly tight briefs with a big fluffy was cloth bundled around the package for extra support and cushioning. After about a week the wash cloth went away.

I never wore one. But I did wear tight boxer shorts, the synthetic fabric kind. Still wearing them. Got use to them. I don't think I'll wear briefs again.

The jockstrap from Vanderbilt was CRAP. No more than a g string that was uncomfortable and did nothing. The one from UMMR was an extra large like a heavy made Bike jockstrap. Comfortable and helped even though I wear medium or large depending on brand normally. Wore it off and on a few days. Now I wear underwear with a big pouch in front. Your body will tell you what you need and if it is doing any good. Listen to your body. If your sack gets sore, red, raw, or feels heavy wear it. Seams in the center of your pants can be hell on your ball sack.

I woke up from surgery with one on. Tossed it two days later and replaced it with pouch underwear

I used one for several weeks but found it to be way more tolerable to use if I wore the jock strap on the OUTSIDE of my briefs. I think that using it on the outside also may solve some of the "comfortable underwear" issues until you heal up some and everything is not so tender from surgery.

I wasn't given anything special to wear just tried different things. My bikinis were out of the question so I opted for my sons larger underwear. After the swelling went down, my bikinis were too small. I now wear black net pouch briefs from Banggood to accommodate my much larger package. I love them.

Never tried anything but Banggood. They're cheap and extremely comfortable. Plus they look so sexy. I had to get extra large.
