anesthesia vs nerve block

Postby nudist » Sat Jul 22, 2017 1:28 pm

I am wondering if anyone has opted for a nerve block rather than anesthesia for the procedure? the advantage would be that you could talk to the doctor and ask questions and make decisions about anything abnormal he encountered.
updated: 70 y.o., implanted with titan nov. 3 by Dr. Brady in orlando to correct peyronies. 20 cm with 3 cm RTEs. due to the severity of the peyronies, some internal excisions were made scrotally, recovery will probably take a little longer.

I have not. I asked about it last surgery being I understand it is Eid's preference. I was told Kramer prefers general. Also told that it would not make any difference as far as discussion because the doctor does not want you to be able to talk or move around so you would have a twilight sedation even if you have spinal. Told the same first time at Nashville too. I did have spinal for a thoracic surgery and I hated it but in that case I had a catheter in my back for 3 days so likely a whole different kind of deal. Yes, I would like to watch my surgeries and discuss it in process. d

Nudist: My thought is to hire the best surgeon you can and take his/her recommendation. From what I understand if they use a caudal or saddle block, they will still put you under with versed and demerol.

thanks, guys. my dr. was not in favor of it. "moving target", etc.
I've done heat caths, colonoscopies and knee surgeries with out sedation, so I had hoped for that option.

I am the curious type, and I thought being awake (although in la la land) for my heart catheterization was really cool, but there's no way I want to be anything but completely under for my upcoming implant. I may be curious, but I'm still a complete wuss when it comes to my little man and a scalpel -- let alone that nifty dilator I've seen. I'd actually be happy being completely under from the day before my surgery until my activation date.

Oh hell no, not me! I wouldn't have ever done that. :o Have you seen a video of The procedure! No way I'd take a chance of feeling anything. But I really don't know if some doctors offer nerve block or not.

Hey, nudist,

Maybe the surgeon is too busy right then to be having any conversation with the patient.

I had the spinal/epidural and was put completely out.My nurse said "Here comes the happy juice"
And that was he last thing I remember before waking up.My surgeon gave me a choice and I went with the tap because I did not want a tube down my throat. If you get a choice I think you would be well with the tap.
