I am guessing that I will have a very difficult time convincing my insurance company that I need an implant. I am still able to achieve a decent erection on my own with heavy stimulation. I am currently using Trimix with good success.

So I'm wondering what an implant would cost me roughly if I were to pay for it in cash out of pocket ? I hear it's a lot cheaper in Canada too.

Your responses are appreciated.

Thanks
Flannigan

I am Canadian and mine was completely covered by provincial insurance, however, I am told $33,000 if you have to pay for it.

Thanks for the replies brothers. So now I need to go to battle with Aetna. Any special tips for me on how to convince them I need this ? Again...I have not had prostate surgery and the Trimix is working but I would rather go bionic sooner or later before I lose my noodle. I have kind of warmed up to the idea of being bionic and with all the rave reviews on this site it seems to make good sense. I just want my insurance to pay for it or most of it.

Thanks

One idea is to choose which doctor is performing your surgery and get his office involved in the insurance authorization. I heard that Dr Kramer has a pretty streamlined process for handling the paperwork, probably other doctors will too. Better than fighting with the insurance company alone.

Dr Kramer office (Connie), handled my pre-authorization with my insurance. Takes up to 21 days with United Health Care. Went through without any problems at all.

Connie is terrific. Mine went through with United Healthcare in just a couple of days. I would definitely get your doctor's staff involved rather than you trying to handle this alone.

If the meds are working satisfactorily for you and (BIG IF) you are experiencing no complications, you may want to consider waiting on the implant. (Check out some of Rahid1's posts on the subject.) Implantation is a BIG step, IRREVERSIBLE and not 100% successful (a small but significant number do not work out the first time) and there are new solutions being researched continuously (a pumpless implant erected by magnetically induced heat is in animal trials right now and the venom of the Brazilian Walking Spider looks promising if they can eliminate the major side effect - death).

Implantation pretty much eliminates all other less invasive solutions.

Having said that caveat, a successful implant is pretty nifty and by far the most appreciated prosthetic solution currently available.

Implantation is the best substitute for a natural, organic erection we have at the moment mainly because it is more reliable and controllabe than the alternatives. The duration of the erection is superior to both natural erections and the other medical interventions. The main disadvantages of an implant is that you do have to pump it up, take certain medical risks and have a mechanical device that can break.

Despite all that, I am on the path to get one as soon as I can, having weighed carefully the options.

Good luck

Flannigan, if I was you I wouldn't tack any action on yourself. I don't let the doctor you choose handle the insurance, the know the codes and everything else needed to get you approve.

Yes, those codes can make or break an insurance claim.

I am pretty sure Doctor Eid will finance the implant though Credits are. It is a credit card but Doctor Eid will wave the interest if you agree to a payment plan. My doctor let me put my deductible on it with no interest for 2 years.

I originally elected to have implant surgery with my local uro and was insured by Cigna. The uro's office received Cigna's approval without problem. At that point I elected to change doctors believing insurance would be no problem.I arranged for the implant with Dr Kramer at University of Maryland hospital which were both in my network.
Remarkably, Cigna than denied the coverage that they had already approved. After much angst in trying to deal with Cigna they recommended a peer to peer review between their doctor and Dr Kramer.
Dr Kramer graciously agreed to assist and his office set the phone review. In very short order Cigna reversed their former decision and paid for the whole thing less a $50.00 co-pay.
How's that for service.
Great doc, great guy, 1st class operation.
