Anyone know this surgeon?

Postby Lost Sheep » Tue Oct 10, 2017 1:55 am

After searching high and low, communicating with two Doctors in New York and Baltimore, two in Anchorage and going to meet with one in Seattle (with the Veteran's Administration) and dragging through innumerable messages on one support group or another, guess what just fell into my lap (no pun intended)?

A specialist in implant surgery who teaches it to other doctors, is published, who just came to be stationed at my local Air Force Base and is willing to work on this U.S. Air Force veteran?

Dr. Tavis Shaw. Anyone know him?

I met with him Tuesday (10/3/17) and he is relaxed, confident, inspires my confidence and is at ease with (and even a little appreciative of) a self-educated patient who asks a lot of questions.

Sounds like you found your surgeron. I know you have been struggling with it. Will your insurance or VA pay him?

You could use a site such as healthgrade to see if he is there. Ask him to have patients contact you.

Since he is axpctive duty USAF, I expect the cost to me will me minimal.

Getting prior patients' testimonials is unlikely for the same reason...he has been in Alaska a short time. But he published a paper with Dr Garber so that is reassuring.

Healthgrade isn't working for me, but I will ry it from home tonight. They do not even show the Urology specialty as a choice for specialty.

If he is active duty, how will he be able to do surgery on you? Is there and agreement between AF and Va? Heathgrades may not have anything on on active duty Dr

Yes, the VA asked the AF Hospital and Dr Shaw accepted the referral. Just like downtown.

Since the VA is paying you part more than likely zero. I know here at Ft Gordon and the Augusta VA they work together
