Struggling to stop researching implants

Postby geophd » Wed Oct 18, 2017 7:19 pm

Hey guys,

Have any of you been through a period where you couldn't stop researching implants? I'm young and nervous about getting an implant. My erection is becoming thinner due to peyronie's and the ED from the peyronie's requires up to 10 mg daily to have consistent sex, but then the headaches. I've fallen into this stage where I'm constantly trying to find other young men that are like me that went for the implant and had good results. Even if my ED and peyronie's is only mild or moderate, the psychological affects have been significant. This makes me search out a solution to my ED/peyronie's and the only reliable answer is an implant. Have you guys been through this and how did you stop it? My peryonie's is supposed to "get better" and "I won't need an implant" but my mind won't let me wait for that to happen, it just wants to get to a solution now. Also, is this mental anguish enough to get an implant alone?

I started seeing a psychologist because of this, never needed one before!, and he thinks I need an anxiety medication to bring me back to Earth until the Peyronie's gets better or I guess I get surgery... Anyone have any experience with this?

Peyronie's: 6 months, indents cause loss of 0.5 inches of girth, fibrosis growing, caused ED.
ED: 10mg Cialis daily, getting headaches, not interested in VED/injections.
Considering implant to avoid a lifetime of cialis and to correct deformity.

geophd,

Yes, I got pretty obsessed by it also -- it's my nature.

I was certain my ED was not going to get better after my prostatectomy. I knew this is where I was headed, and I wanted to know everything I could about the procedure and guys' results. FT was extremely valuable, and again I thank all of the guys who helped me along the way.

Question: I don't personally know much about Peyronie's, but I am curious to know who is telling you that it will get better.

Thanks for the reply,

Dr. Lue (UCSF) and Dr. Gelbard... They think the ED can be related to inflammation and not necessarily scar tissue and that it could improve. I've now had it for 6 months. My peyronie's involves plaque/fibrosis/scar tissue in the septum of my penis and occurs as little nodules all along the shaft. This causes indents all along my erect penis and has resulted in a thinning of the erection. Probably lost 1/4" at the base and 1/2" near the end. The ED isn't nearly as bad as many of you guys have faced. I remember failing a couple times before I got on Cialis/Viagra, now I take 5 mg daily when my girlfriend is not visiting (supposed to help with peyronie's) and I take 10 when she's here because we have sex twice a day and that dosage helps me have a strong erection. Then I get a headache all day the next day and have to take more drugs to help with that pain...

I should note that the first doctor, Dr. Lue, who said it would get better was two months ago and it's gotten much worse since then.

Sometimes I think the implant is my only option, other times I think how crazy I would be to get one and weird it would make me feel. I'm lost. I've been so confident, happy, clear headed, etc up until this diagnosis and now I'm on FT all day trying to convince myself that an implant will fix my problem.

the peyronies won't get better. only worse.
updated: 70 y.o., implanted with titan nov. 3 by Dr. Brady in orlando to correct peyronies. 20 cm with 3 cm RTEs. due to the severity of the peyronies, some internal excisions were made scrotally, recovery will probably take a little longer.

Agonizing over which implant to go with is futile and only increases your general level of agita. Assuming you have selected your surgeon with similar diligence, you should trust him/her to recommend which will work best for you. AMS and Coloplast both make excellent products and you will do fine with either.

Thanks guys,

nudist - that's what I hear! But apparently mine is fairly mild (not a lot of plaque, no calcification) and I'm young, so the doctors are optimistic. Of course, I'm not optimistic because, like you've said, it's been getting worse.. more plaque, more indents in my erections, loss of girth, and worse ED. I should note that ever since I completely failed the first few times to have sex I vowed not to do it again and now I take 10-20 mg cialis and sometimes a 20 mg viagra just to make sure I don't lose anything with my girlfriend. That was a TERRIBLE experience, I feel for you guys that go through that shit all the time.

My implant surgeon will probably be either Dr. Eid or Kramer just because of all the "fan boys" on here... Many of the guys on here refer to Eid and Kramer patients as such, kinda makes me laugh. But my question is, if my 10 mg cialis a day w/ headaches ED isn't better after a year, should I just say fuck it and go with the implant to bring my mind back? I'm thinking about making that commitment to myself, and if so, should I begin arranging it with Dr. Eid's office so that it can happen fairly quickly?

I was so obsessed with researching penile implants the past couple years that my wife asked if I was turning gay because there were often penis pix on my laptop. After getting my implant 4 weeks ago I have all this free time when I used to be doing research.
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

Geo, It sounds like you're in the SF Bay Area. I don't know if you're locked in to Eid or kramer, but I highly recommend Dr. Karpman in Mt View. Send me a pm if you want to discuss.

I have been diligently researching for 14 months, communicated with Dr. Kramer and Dr. Eid, a urologist at the PUget Sound V.A. (Seattle), two urologists in Anchorage Alaska and one at Elmendorf Hospital (Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson). Read many Medical Journal research articles and tried to communicate with both Coloplast and AMS representatives (with partial success at AMS)

I could have had the Surgery in September, 2016, but decided to wait until I had enough knowledge to be sure an implant was the way I wanted to go, could be a participatory patient and contribute meaningfully to an optimal outcome.

I am glad I waited. I believe the preparation I have done will help.

One thing Dr. Shaw (the surgeon who will implant me) said when I related to him my saga is that "If you went to Dr. Kramer, you will have overflown (I live in Anchorage and Dr. Kramer is in Maryland.) a lot of good surgeons." In fact, he was not familiar with Drs Eid and Dr Kramer, but has published with Dr. Garber and knows Dr. Perito. The notoriety and fame of surgeons in this forum is not only a product of surgical skill, but also of publicity, promotion and luck. How well known a surgeon is is not the only indicator of skill.

I suggest you do what I did, research as much as you can and interview you choice of surgeon to see if his/her approach to treatment of you E.D. agrees with your (lay) opinions and if you are compatible, then go ahead.

Philosophies vary on whether or not to remove all corpus cavernosum tissue or leave as much of it undisturbed as possible, the relative merits of pre-op vacuum therapy (may not be a factor in your circumstances), the function of RTEs (Rear Tip Extenders), how the surgeon will "size" you (determine the size of implant), how much to leave you inflated after surgery, how soon after surgery to begin cycling your implant and many other questions.

Some patients turn themselves over to their Doctors (for any medical condition), follow instructions ask no questions and do not educate themselves further. Some patients educate themselves to the highest degree, even to the point of being more knowledgeable than their own Doctors (in a VERY narrow area, of course). Each approach has its merits. Sometimes (in the first case) the patient is better off not knowing all the ins and outs; might be happier and have a more comfortable recovery (especially mentally) without worrying about all the minute details - just concentrate of following instructions and getting better. Other patients are the opposite. I suspect you are the latter?

I will not fault either approach to one's own medical treatment. What I will do is to admonish you (all individuals) to pick an approach (the two that I have described or one of your own) and follow it assiduously to the ultimate outcome and don't look back.

Good luck

I have done my research, picked my surgeon and am scheduled for November 6 2017 instead of September 25 2016. I will not regret the wait, as the knowledge and confidence I have gained give me confidence that I am making (no, have made) the right decision.

Without getting too philosophical and saying how to keep positive about possible improvement, I would suggest taking some comfort in knowing that implant technology has been around a long time. The products are sound, have high success rates and IF things don't improve you do have the option of an implant. So keep your head up :)
A lot (or all) of us here know the frustrations of ED and some know the details of what you are going through with peyronies.
You are not alone, you are not going crazy getting caught up in looking into implants.
Read forums here that look interesting, talk to or PM people you see that have peyronies... look at the surgery being done (if you can stomach it), talk to doctors in your area that specialize in this field.

I'm young, I don't have peyronies, and I'm very interested in talking to my local implant surgeon about this on Nov 2.
If testing finds any anomalies that warrant an implant I will proceed with that route. I'm tired of second guessing my dick's abilities with pills.

Much like you I've been researching a lot the last few months.

Best of luck to you! and we're here if you need us :)
