What's Your Idea for New Members

Postby 3mtrship » Sun Jul 18, 2010 12:30 pm

In CHAT today we decided this site needs to grow larger.

We think bigger is better.

We would like to request any and all members submit their ideas here to be havested by site Owner for possible action.

Thanks Jim

I think we need a gallery....not just a single thread.... where we can post all kinds of pics. And various groups to attract people with different interests......or shared passions, etc.

Jim:

You pose an interesting question. My thoughts are intended to contribute to a dialogue. I wonder if as a first step to growing bigger, I agree most of us would like that, would be to assess what we have now. If one looks thru the roster for this site there are many, many more guys as members than participate in the Chat Room or the Discussion Forums. Perhaps we should first “survey” those individuals to see if they would participate more if_____. As time permits maybe the grand pooh bah(s) of this clan could conduct a survey among these individuals to assess if more service is helpful.

As we know, E D is a sensitive topic for most guys and talking with another guy about erections and “stuff” is a bit over the edge for many. Many individuals may be satisfied to just read and watch. Male sexuality is still a very difficult thing to get one’s hand or mind around. This site is amazing at opening vistas and minds but can we do more and allow more guys to feel comfortable with the site’s efforts. The fact that FrankTalk is a world-wide group of guys fighting the same demon is impressive and should not be underestimated. The good that is done here should be celebrated; even if quietly and in private.

Also, how would the chat room function if 44 guys were on at one given time? How would we handle the privacy and variety of topics? Certainly there is room to continue to grow. Should there be additional discussion forums? Can the site be improved to allow 2 or 4 to have a private chat or private message? Could the market place be activated to allow us to purchase within a private “store” and perhaps generate some $$ to help underwrite the site? Additional informational and instructional videos may be an additional service if the legal tech issues can be worked out. Is FrankTalk an incorporated entity and is it a non-profit to which contributions can be made? Can we find sponsors or underwriters to assist us to grow and assume some of the financial burden of maintaining the site?

If each active member talked with his urologist and internist about the benefits of the site we could do good and we would grow. I have discussed FrankTalk with my Urologist (also a PCa victim) and he is looking at it. When I have my annual physical in November, I will discuss FrankTalk with my Internist and I’m sure he will look into the site’s work.

Jim, your efforts to generate dialogue around this topic is great! The balance of planned, controlled growth versus an explosion of growth is an important thought process. While not “looking” for an explosion of growth, if we did something and it happened, how would the site handle the situation?

This is a great start, my thanks for your efforts. I hope these disjointed thoughts help you.

Regards,
Dick

It's hard to say.

ED is an extremely common medical problem and websites such as this one are very useful and important.

Sexual dysfunction is, however, a sensitive subject. Most men are too embarrassed to talk about it or even admit they have a problem. So they prefer to suffer in silence. That's the real problem.

I guess the best way to improve our website and make it grow is to collaborate as much as we can: post questions, share our opinions and personal experiences and do A LOT of research and discuss the results with the rest of the Frank Talk community.

A little bit of PR won't hurt either. Why not a promotional video on You Tube? It's one of the most popular websites in the world and it features many videos on ED.

Finally, I believe we should have more information on psychogenic ED. Most of the Frank Talk discussions are focused solely on organic ED.

I think a lesson in the basics would be a good idea. How it works, how just one little thing can affect the whole process etc.
The science of an erection etc.

There are lots of guys on here who have ED as the result of other conditions, but few who have no idea why, is it psychogenic etc. I think there is a tendancy (not necessarily on here) to dismiss this form as being almost 'lesser', yet for the sufferer it is not.

With the time diff i struggle to chat to others. Maybe we could put a flag by each person, with their time difference? Help us to arrange to be on at same times.
Just some thoughts. Dave

hi guys do you have a downloadable leaflet or poster i can put up or distribute in my local eurology departments have asked the ed nurses to give your site a scan so thay can tell me next time if they will recommend it to patients. i know it will help comunications with the nurses and help the nurses get to the task at hand which is to help our warrior. here in middle wales uk i found your site really useful in being able to talk to the nurses openly and honestly without embarrasment, if i can turn more men your way so they can learn to talk about there warrior in ways that are helpful to thier partner and others involved in their ED that would be really cool.

julian,
Brilliant Idea! I will get to work on this right away. I have a two sided leaflet prepared that would be left in doctor's offices, but a whole brochure is a great idea. Can I ask - is it so that you can tell others about the site? So that you can get some help in talking about ED? Both.
Let me know your ideas of what you'd like to see in it.

MY first thoughts -
1 - Assure guys they are not alone in dealing with ED
2 - Give them hope that they can get help
3 - give them specific questions to ask their doctors
4 - Give them a brief outline of treatments
5 - tell them about FrankTalk.

Thoughts?
Paul

A couple of comments...

I was on chat today and there were several others on at the same time. A good portion of the subject matter and discussion were things that maybe could be on the discussion forums (instead of just in chat) as individual threads, or posts in response, that are archived for new and potential members to see. There were a lot of good comments that could be useful to many more.

I did notice that those not logged in, or maybe without an account, were able to listen in on the chat. Maybe they would benefit by becoming members and having the chat as members only? Many other sites, of different subject matter, operate this way.

Just a thought...

«I think a lesson in the basics would be a good idea. How it works, how just one little thing can affect the whole process etc.
The science of an erection etc.»

Excellent suggestion.

Most people, even cultivated men, have no idea how an erection works. A few years ago, I thought an erection was caused by increased heart rate and adrenaline levels.

This article by Tom F. Lue is a great place to start:
