When I first met with Dr. Eid he told me I could go home the day of the procedure. I, however, plan on getting to NYC the night before and staying another night day of the surgery. It just seems I should hang around longer for any potential complications.

When I had mine we did the motel night before and 2 days after. After the drain was out we came home, but different dr. It would not hurt anything except your wallet.

I went up the day before and left the day after because of the long drive. They kept me overnight and discharged me around lunch time so we stayed another night just in case as well.

How far are you traveling? Flying or driving? Traveling alone?

My surgery was on Friday and I flew home on Monday with the catheter in, and very glad I left it in for travel.

Dr Eid's post-op instructions are for two full days in bed with ice packs, and I did that. I think this contributed to reduced swelling and I was able to activate on day 4.

The most uncomfortable I was after surgery was the one hour car ride to the airport on day 3. Setting in a car seat was seriously uncomfortable and had me worried. You may need to lie down on the back seat if traveling by car.

The surgery itself is short but the hospital time was about 6 hours. I had a 5:30a check-in and walked out around noon. So keep that in mind.

But the most important thing, you will not regret having Dr Eid do your surgery.

Wow. activated on day 4! I'm at day 16 post op and still feel to tender down there for activating. Well done indeed.

My incision is pretty tender, but the pump isn't that near the incision. You could try gently feeling for the deflate button when in a hot bath. To my surprise I could identify the pump parts pretty easily and without pain.

I can feel around the pump fairly ok but I can't work out which bit is which and worry I would possibly inflate and then not be able to deflate. I think I'll wait and go with the DR who is activating on 5th Jan. Thanks for reply tho.

Dr Eid's office staff is really well versed in all matters regarding implants and quite expert at helping you with this type of logistics question. As long as you have a firm surgery date, then you will likely find Sylvia/Janice/Ruby to be super helpful. I leaned on the office staff for questions quite a bit, and I only called Dr Eid (he will give you his cell phone) a few times for questions that required the doctor's expertise.

Here is my opinion on the issue of going home: it really depends on how far you need to travel.

If your travel is more than 5 hours, then likely best to stay in a hotel.

Here are the milestones that I think are important:

1) day 5 - first activation (ideally, it might be nice if you can see your doctor or his nurse for this so that you are 100% certain that you know how to deflate); HOWEVER, for me, I did this at home since I left town on an airplane 80 hours after surgery.

2) day 14 - suture removal (ideally, this should be done by your surgeon); HOWEVER, for me, I had my local urologist take care of this since I am on the west coast and Dr Eid is in New York City.

3) day 28 - first sex (ideally, this will be an amazing and life re-invigorating experience)



If you are international patient, I can maybe see an argument to stay in the country for two weeks (first three days in Manhattan, and then the rest of the time somewhere less expensive, but close enough so you can have a final visit with Eid at the 14 day suture removal day. However, this is likely not necessary; and it was definitely not necessary for me. My surgery, pump placement, and pump function all went perfectly, and I was able to easily fly home on Friday (surgery was Tuesday) and had a super fast recovery (back at work on day 14 with almost no pain at 14 days).

I share with you all your point of view, both regarding the level of expertise within Dr. Eid’s office, as well as the best way to manage your time as a patient before and after surgery. I truly believe Dr. Eid has done everything possible to build such expertise for the benefit of his patients.

Hit milestone 2) today, sutures are out. I had dreaded this but turned out to be a nonevent at local urgent care clinic. Incision was already healed but the thread rubbing on my jockeys was really irritating. All is well.
