My FORMER Pain Management specialist has had me on every-other-month spinal injections of Betamethasone for Spinal Stenosis, plus arthritis, plus my spinal cord is being crushed by calcification. Simultaneously, he's had me on either daily Morphine; or OxyContin. And for breakthrough pain it's been either Oxycodone or Immediate Release Morphine.
But I fired him! While my husband was on a ventilator in a drug-induced coma, this specialist had me do a urine drug screen. A week later he accused me of doing amphetamine and methamphetamine. From day 1, he KNEW I'm on antidepressant patches that are transdermal selegiline (orally used as a Parkinson's med.) It's not only an MAO Inhibitor, but rather inhibits both MAO A&B (one of the only antidepressants I respond to.) But transdermally, it metabolizes into a few things, two of which are l-amphetamine and l-methamphetamine.
This doctor had seen my patches on me when I've had a spinal injection and asked, "What are those?" I included them on a list of meds at every visit whether or not any changes took place. I refuse to be accused of doing something I'm not doing, especially when he had full knowledge of what other meds I'm on.
