incontance

Postby waynestar » Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:11 am

I had prostate surgery two years ago and have not be able to regain my bladder control. I need information from people who have very similar conditions as I have to help me make a decision about getting a artificial sphincter. The cost of the surgery is over $30,000 and I have to pay a $1,000 deductible plus 20% which means my out of pocket will be over $7,000. Here are my conditions. After prostate surgery I am at the point where I use one pad a day if I remain inactive and go to the bath room every two or three hours. I use two pads a day if I am even moderately active and I am completely incontinent while I am exercising. This problem is more of a problem than the inability to get an erection. I am 73 years old and I can deal with that problem but being wet all the time is a big downer. If the artificial sphincter will leave me completely dry I definitely will get it. Even if I have to wear a pad when exercising that is O.K. but if I will leak and need a pad even when just getting in and out of a automobile I will probably just stay like I am. $7,000 it too much to get just a tiny bit of relief. I would like information from others, who had the artificial sphincter surgery with similar conditions of incontance as I have, as to how successful the surgery is. My e-mail is waynestar8@hotmail.com Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

Wayne: I know of a couple of guys that have had AUS surgery and are doing fine. One guy knotreel is a member here and possibly will post to you. I thought you medicare would cover the entire procedure.

Sorry to hear of your problems with a leakey faucet. I agree with you that is bigger then having a limp willie. Most guys would agree.

Best of luck with you quest to get dry.

You may want to look at healingwell.com and go to the prostate cancer section there. I know several guys have had slings done as well.
