Newbie saying hi and my story

I have been reading this forum voraciously for about a week. You guys are awesome! So much great advice and support. Thank you for being here! So here's my story...

I noticed the ED in my late 20's but didn't really understand it and there was nothing to help. Viagra came out a few years later and that helped. I've been single for the 30 years since then and have had a couple of three year relationships, a few other shorter ones, but very few sexual encounters outside of that. My sex life has been underwhelming. Looking back, I think the ED was the reason I didn't seek out relationships. The ED was manageable for 20 years with pills. Pills didn't help as much in the last 10 years and I had a few embarrassing encounters when the pill did absolutely nothing. Pills worked when I was entertaining myself, but the psychological pressure with a female suppressed any effect from the pill. Caverject worked, but I could never figure out how to introduce that in a real sexual encounter.

Enter Prostate Cancer (to the tune "Enter Sandman"). Had surgery at MD Anderson in June 2017 (Dr Ward). Good outcome, small positive margin, no further treatment suggested. MDA got me on a penile rehabilitation program, but with my previous ED history, I knew it wouldn't amount to much. Tried the normal trimix dosage, but erections didn't last long. Increased the mix to 30/2/40 and that works very, very, well. Went to MDA for a Doppler last week. That showed I had leakage in one chamber and both arterial deficiency and leakage in the other. Doc explained that the high trimix dose worked because it was able to keep ahead of the leakage. He suggested an implant.

The prostate doc told me about implants last year, but I thought "why go through all that when I'm not in a relationship and mostly haven't been in 30 years? Trimix works wonderfully, I'll stick to that." After six months of relying on trimix, I realized that trimix just doesn't fit my lifestyle. I'm an avid backpacker and traveler. I can't tote trimix around the world on travels. When the doc suggested an implant last week, I said yes. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr Run Wang at MDA. Surgery is Tuesday April 24 and I will stay overnight in the hospital. Wednesday and Thursday nights will be in a hotel attached to MDA (nice!) and fly home on Friday. Flight is non-stop and only two hours.

I have a few questions, but will start a separate post to keep the thread specific to one topic. For now, I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks to everyone for your awesome support to this group!!

Hey Vince how's it going? This is an absurd sounding question that's also EXTREMELY hypothetical but what would happen if a guy who already had an implant required a prostatectomy??? Could the implant be preserved. Thank you!

Welcome Vince. Best wishes as you move forward with your implant surgery. I am 6 months post-op and it has been a fantastic change in my life.

No doctor, but I think it's not a problem. Robotic prostatectomy goes in through the belly and posterior of the penis structure. Search for videos on it.

Hugh: As with all other surgeries, I think the outcome is a function of the skill of the surgeon. I had an RP at Methodist Houston, that was robotic assisted and i had no problems at all. Done by Dr. brian Miles who is medical director of roboticc surgery for Methodist.

My robotic Prostatectomy was textbook perfect and I didn’t have any of the common issues many guys have after having their Prostate removed. I am not sure what the stories are you have heard but before I went that route I talked to 7 men and 5 had gone the robotic route. None of them had any issues of consequence while both of the other guys who had the traditional surgery experienced some incontinence and one of them had nerve damage.

Is there a newer robot? I think it was the Da Vinci that I heard about. May have been an early case

There is a guy on here. Who was fucked forever by a Di Vinci Robot. Maybe he'll post. I had radiation. I am cancer free.
