Yeah, I agree. I was told no sex for 6 weeks and others were told 3.. When I think back, I am glad I wasn't told 3 weeks, I don't think I would have been healed enough for sex at 3 weeks.

So I was told the cylinders are up as far as they can go. My anatomy doesnt allow for the cylinders to go any further..? i tried to argue my point about the head being so floppy but they said its too esrly to say as I shouldnt have been inflating yet anyway. They said they can in future put some stiches in the head to give it some more rigidity. While I accept that may stiffen up the head. I can still stretch my penis a good 1.5 inches extra. Any suggestions where to go with this one.

And they could say that are not willing to do anything because you were inflating early, against doctors orders. I have been gently advising against doing anything against doctors orders all along. I hope everything works out.

I left the hospital with no orders at all. I wasnt even aware i had disolvable stitches until just now. They were so surprised I am back at work already and I said yeah I have no pain and I was not told anything. You wouldnt believe the way it works here.

That's strange they didnt give you instructions. I had to have an appointment with the nurse specialist at UCLH (Clare Akers) before getting approval to go ahead with the implant. At my appointment with her she ran through the post op protocol with me...

Have you wat hed any of the numerous actual surgery videos that are on the internet ?
They expand [dialate] the channels all the way to the ends then pull the inflatable chambers up through the glans with a needle and traction sutures to ensure they get all the way to the top.

There should be no resason your channels end below the head [glans] except they didnt expand all the way to the top or you would have had floppy head to begin with.

I was also given post op instructions very clearly before leaving the hospital. Leave well alone for 4 weeks. Was told about stitches, pain relief and what to expect. Something is very wrong with your experience baring in mind it’s tge same surgical team albeit I was paying and not NHS. Check up after 2 weeks than again at 4 to try First inflate. Then told to leave again until 6 weeks for any sex. But told to inflate daily.

Reading though this thread, I am glad that I went private !

I had clear indications before the op re how long before I could have sex, where the incision would be made, the fact that the stitches were dissolvable and so on. the immediate post op instructions were comprehensive and clear, and I have even been told that there was a half centimetre difference between my right and left cylinder s measured during the op, but that hopefully all should be well as they both went well into the glans. I have my first post-op check up tomorrow. So far so good, so hopefully this will continue. The main issue at the moment is that the pump seems very close to my left testicle, rather than more central, Otherwise things are as expected

I went private also John but surely the professional ethics and process, due diligence and patient outcomes should not be compromised by being NHS. One would hope not.

I am not sure that going private in UK necessarily makes a difference to care other than, perhaps, getting an earlier operation date (I waited 2 months on our NHS).

I was seen 7 days after my operation by the nurse specialist whom I had met during my initial surgeon consultation and who had deflated me after the operation whilst in hospital. She told me I was healing well, that the pump was ideally placed central and low and that I should gently pull down to keep it there. I was told to leave the implant alone until activation 5 weeks after the operation and she answered all my questions.

I still have no pain, just minor discomfort sometimes because my ball sack has more in it than I am used to. Uninflated the tips of my implant appear to be about half way into my glans and seem to support the head well. I will know for sure after activation.

At no point do I feel that going private could have given me better care and attention or a better outcome thus far. Some people criticise our NHS system but as a 20 year diabetic, ED sufferer and now an implantee I cannot fault the care and support I have received over the years. A health system that is universal and takes no account of ability to pay is a great privilege. Moreover, the option to go private with or without insurance is still available if you feel you need it.
