Hi to all -
I have just joined this website. A long time friend of mine who has had prostrate surgery recommended it to me. I am a 65 year old gay man in a committed relationship of 15 years. I recently had a TURP procedure via PVP (Green Light) Laser. I can say that it was highly successful. Prior to that procedure I had been having increasing ED difficulties. I have used Viagra and Cialis both of which previously worked but now don't seem to be as effective. Also, I am quite familiar with "cock rings", "penis pumps" etc. as those devices are familiar to gay men. Probably much more so than to straight men. No offense meant here. My urologist has suggested using penile injections. I will be seeing him again in about 3 weeks to discuss this. Any thoughts from anyone? He has also suggested again trying the pills and moving up from that to other choices.

Hey Chas,

After 3 + years of frustrating failures with various combos of pills, I started using trimix injections in November of 2010. Results: WOOHOO! There are some things to learn about how best to manage the injection protocol,and you can find tons of info on the "Injections" forum on this site. For now, suffice it to say that I'm a big fan of pricksticking. Just wish I could do it every day...

For sure, try to learn all you can before your next uro appt. The more you know, the better conversation you can have with the doctor.

Question: Is Trimix or Bimix intrauretral gel equal to or less than in effectiveness than injected versions? Is injected Trimix or Bimix the same as what a urologist would normally prescribe or are these different? Anybody have some info on this?

Chas that is a great question. Many Uros do perscribe TriMix and BiMix. The other injectable is Caverject or (Edex) same thing. And I know of one other mix QuadMix.

The intrauretral gel is not as effective as the injection rocket fuel.

Some Uro like to start with Caverject. My Uro likes it better if you dont have the ache from it. He claims that there is less of a chance of having to make the ER run. That being said the Caverject is much more expensive than TriMix or BiMix. My Uro did tell me he would give me the script for TriMix if I wanted it.

I didn't know the names of any of these injection solutions prior to going to the urologist. I was already his patient (BPH, TURP, and all that) and simply made the appt to talk about "shots". Internist, Cardiologist, and Cardiac Surgeon were all on board with the fact that it was time to think about a "next step" in "our" battle against my ED. He reviewed my chart, asked me a few questions about my failed therapies and wrote me the scrip for trimix without any fanfare and instructed me to get it filled at a specific, local compounding pharmacy he recommended.

I trust and respect him (Magna Cum Laude--Tulane for starters) and, as they say, "he done good"!

My subsequent discernment is that Trimix is the "norm", as it were, for penile injection therapy. I think most uros move to bimix and or quadmix only when the trimix has ill effects (or is not effective) in some way. Anecdotal evidence suggests that trimix is more often than not the best bang for the buck. And I can tell you that this buck has sure enjoyed the bang!

I don't have all the medical names, but caverject is the main ingredient for all the others. Bi mix has one other ingredient, trimix two others, and quad mix three others. The trimix seems to work for the majority of people according to my pharmacist. He told me that if i ached with caverject, I would probably ache with bimix. Trimix allows the caverject portion to be lower, so less ache.
I started with caverject. Expensive and each time I injected I ached worse. The last time I injected, I started to get an erection and then the aching took over. I ended up taking sudafed, a vicodin, and put ice on it, forget about sex, I was in serious pain. I then went to trimix. Much cheaper, more effective, and no ache. I would personally recommend to anyone considering injections to go straight to trimix. I went to quadmix eventually, which was even more effective.

Hey guys,

The Bimix I use does not contain Alprostadil-(AKA Prostaglandin, Edex, Caverject, PGE-1). Any amount of Alprostadil causes me the achy pain. So far I've injected Bimix 9 times and will be doing number 10 today. I'm using 10 units but since the last one went for 3 hours at 100% I'm gonna reduce to 9 units to try to cut down on the "up" time without reducing the hardness factor.
