Name For Trimix

Postby alfa88 » Tue Aug 07, 2018 3:22 am

My uro was more than happy to prescribe trimix but my insurance had Edex listed so I opted foe that. In case there is some sort of huge co-payment or Edex doesn't work I went to the RiteAid pharmacy and queried about price of trimix. The girl entered trimix into the computer and came up blank. Is there another name?

No, it is Trimix. However, you have to obtain it from a compound pharmacy. RiteAid is not a compound pharmacy. Your uro and his office should have recommended one.

I am fortunate that the only one in this area is just down the road from my uro's office.
ED worsened over 25 years, likely VL. Went through pills and injections, and results faded over time. Implant AMS 700CX, 21 cm, no RTE, on 6/3/24.

Alfa88:

Trimix is a formula of: Papaverine, Phentolamine and (PGE)Alprostadil
Bimix is the first two ingredients. There is quadmix too.

They are compounded medications , menaing mixed together at a pharmacist...a compunding pharmacisit.
Like all the pharmacist were in the old(en) days.

If you are not having luck locally... rxbuyersclubusa.com provides pharmacy and doctor access
who prescribe & ship there.

Most excellent. Bookmark saved. Another lesson learned. Rite aid, Wallgreens and the like = glorified drug pushers
I'm just concerned that with no clearly defined physical reason for my ED the insurance will consider it a 'lifestyle drug' and I'll foot the bill. If I'm going to have to pay in full it may as well be a less expensive, more effective alternative. At least Edex has a manufactureer's coupon to ease the pain

The actual pharmacist at the RiteAid should be able to tell you who the local compounding pharmacies are. Also note that not all compounding pharmacies do injection meds like tri-mix. It takes a higher level of lab license for those.

Alfa,

Before you settle on Edex (even with a coupon) be sure to do some real-world comparison with the cost of trimix. Familiarize yourself with the trimix prices available from reputable mail-order pharmacies you can see discussed here on FT.

I spent most of four years using trimix. In that time the price increased somewhat and I found it necessary to increase the dosage somewhat to continue getting the desired effect.

That said, my price per dose at the outset was $2.02. At the end, it was $3.88.

At that point I persuaded my uro to switch me to quad-mix, which has the three ingredients mentioned above, plus atropine. It costs about $135 per 5 ml vial, about the same price as I was paying for 10 ml of trimix. However, the quad-mix is so potent (rocket fuel!) that my dosage is very small. Price per dose is $2.45.

Even if you have to pay out of pocket, you might find numbers like that a better deal than Edex. You might or might not have to pay for an annual visit to the uro. (It might be covered if you had him do a prostate exam while you were there.) The injectable meds are inexpensive. Unless you're doing the deed daily, your annual cost is likely to be under $250, and perhaps significantly less if you require only a small dosage.

You can also get PG1 from compound pharmacy. That is the same as EdEx. I pay $85 for 20ML

Tomas,

Talon WAS my supplier, until they stopped shipping to Oregon. I loved their service.

What I learned from the experience is that the mail-order pharmacies must have a separate license in each state to which they ship. The licenses aren't free, of course, and Talon apparently decided not to renew in 2017.

Just guessing, but given the distance from Texas to Oregon, and given that Oregon is a low-population state, Talon may have found that maintaining an Oregon license was not cost-effective.
