I'm not a medical professional of any kind. Anything I post is based on my own experiences at best and fantasy or hallucination at worst. Always ask your doctor and follow his/her advice.
I find the 31 gauge 5/16" needles work fine. With the 1/2" needles I generally don't quite bury them all of the way. With 5/16" needles I bury them all of the way and actually have the plastic nipple of the syringe indenting my skin. The intern seems to have found the correct depth on you. Did you per chance pay any attention to the depth and angle he used? Remember, resistance to depressing the plunger means you need to go a little deeper or pull out some. A little distance in or out can make a big difference.
No numbing necessary!
How much effect .10 bump makes depends on your sensitivity to the meds and the strength of the meds. There can be a lot a variation on both. Actually to my non medical mind, an increase of .1 if you're starting at .2 sounds like a pretty big bump. On the syringes I've used, which are U-100 type (a diabetic can explain that) there are 100 unit markings per ml or cc. or in the case of the small syringes I use that hold 3/10 ml there are 30 unit markings. I assume you are referring to actual .2 or .1 of a ml. You'll find most guys here refer to units as found on U-100 syringes. Assuming you are referring to U-100 syringes and your first trial was at 20 units, and you got a good half boner, you might want to try 25 units as marked on a U-100 type syringe. If I've explained this incorrectly hopefully someone will correct me. Remember it makes more sense to ignore anything I've said and strictly follow your doctors advice.
There is a learning curve. You'll get this.
