The Evolution of the Implant

Postby Woody23 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 6:28 pm

What do you guys think what are the upcoming generations of implants capable of?
Is there any information yet from AMS or Coloplast? Are there only these two manufactures?

Do you think the pump might be replaced by some other mechanism soon?
What about life expectancy, will they eventually last 50 years or would they choose to make them break at some point to earn more with revisions?

Or do you think stem cell / cavernous recovery will be the way to go in the close future?
Will implantees be eligible for that treatment too or will you have to go with revisions for life?

I am young and hoping my situation will improve a lot with supplements, cialis, manual stretching and attacking my hard flaccid and pelvic floor dysfunction.
But if I am not content with the progress at the end of the year, I'd be heading for an implant.

Tell me what do you know, hope, expect for future implant generations?

Emotionally devastated, changed my whole life. Looking into implants, maybe going to the U.S. soon. :?

Yup, given the political climate and cost of healthcare rising combined with stockholder demands for greater profits and dividends, this is likely the future.

This is an important and serious question.

There is an article written in the urology literature which addresses this question of future directions:

"Penile implants: a look into the future"
Katherine M. Rodriguez,1 Taylor P. Kohn,1 Anthony B. Davis,2 and Tariq S. Hakky
Transl Androl Urol. 2017 Nov; 6(Suppl 5): S860–S866.

The conclusion from the artile states:

The paradigm of the hydraulic IPP has come a long way
since its inception. From decreased malfunction rates, and
lower infections, to high rates of patient satisfaction, the
one durable treatment for ED still has a lot of potential.
To stay relevant and competitive there are many areas
that Coloplast, AMS and any future competitors should
improve upon. The biggest challenges will be integrating
new technology into the devices to allow them to be more
customizable and effective. The use of 3D printing, new
biomaterials such as the nickel-titanium alloys are a start.
However, the next paradigm shift may be an ED treatment
from within the corporal tissue in the form of stem cell
therapies, gene therapy, or other forms of regenerative
medicine. The IPP has shown durability in a changing
landscape of ED treatment but must always be evolving to keep up.

Fro my reading of the article, there are a few disturbing points:

First, the use of Implants is DECREASING rather than increasing -- I suppose that is good for us guys with the implants since we can be truly have a dick that we can tell women is "one in a million" but the reason the procedure is decreasing in use is:
As it stands, less 5% of eligible patients with refractory ED elect to undergo IPP (31). The reasons are varied from cost, to anxiety about surgery, to concerns that it’s not “natural”.

Regarding the competing procedures, the article lists the following as potential ED treatments coming on the horizon:'
improvement is needed if IPP is to continue to compete with other ED treatments coming—notably gene therapy, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, and other oral agents

Finally, from the perspective of the impantable device, here is what the next generation of implants will have:
The use of 3D printing, new biomaterials such as the nickel-titanium alloys are a start.

This will allow a more custom shape of the implant so it exactly matches your corpora.

All in all, here is my personal take. I believe that a better treatment (better than pills) will appear for ED in the future (perhaps 10 years). It will be perhaps stem cells, or perhaps a new viagra type med. Based on the article, however, I am VERY PESSIMISTIC that we will see anything that will work with the "beast like sex machine durability" that I now enjoy from my inflatable implant (remember, I have premature ejculation too, and that is no issue with the IPP since I can just keep on thrusting.

So, for those young guys who reject using pills or taking injections, the question is "what are you waiting for" If the answer is, "I am waiting for 'gene therapy, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, and other oral agents"" then I would say: "fine, it will be, in my opinion, ten years (Based on the article and on how there is , frankly, nothing, in the pipeline"

There was a nicely written franktalk post by a 36 year old who talks about how the implant changed his life and how he has been with perhaps 30 girls in the last two years driving across the country "living the dream" and "living a life that he would be willing to die for"

In my opinion, as dgmoore from this site states, "Nothing good happens while you wait."

As a final remark, it is my strong opinion that missing out on sex in your thirties and forties is a trajedy.
Never, Never, Never will you be able to get those sex years back while you wait for the next great development.

Ironic that thinking about my own mortality at an ever accelerating rate had me thinking about this early tonight. Part of the "what would I have done differently? " I wish I had known about and made an extra level of effort to get my implant earlier. Rather than liquidating my assets now to make sure I will leave this irrational, uncompromising, and unforgiving world debt free, I should have disposed of some long ago and bought a top notch new dick. All plans now gone out the window, I realize how little I actually needed the convenience of owning some of these assets. My intent was to wear it out. Make sure you allow yourself enough time to do exactly that. Cheers.

Doctors take an oath - First do no harm!!! I don't think they would ever create an implant that would deliberately break so they can get more money. While I am certain greedy bastards exist, I am equally certain that most of them are professionals in every way and would not allow such a device without spilling the beans. Like I just said in another post, there are things I got from an implant that I never had before... size, duration, pride, etc. If given the chance to return to where I was before ED, I would never go back. I love my implant and so does my wife ;) ;) ;)
