Postby Jamie7891 » Mon Aug 27, 2018 10:13 am

Anyone who has experienced an infection after implant

I would like to hear your stories ??

my implant was healing well now just constant aching pain

Done a bit of research and the data shows after infection is present and removed to be later implanted again resulting in noticeable shorter length due to fibrosis

Thanks
31 year old :D tried pills for 5years
Trimix too painful and not spontaneous

Was implanted by dr katelaris on 13/8/18 in Sydney Adventist Hospital
With AMS 700 LGX 21cm & 3cm RTE

I didn't have pain or fever. Just clear fluid from the incision area and the pump was stuck to my scrotum. Aftet the infected three piece was removed, a small malleable was implanted as a space holder. My surgeon said putting a space holder in would help preserve length. But this thing is the size of my presurgery flacid. I found a new surgeon who has me using a VED to preserve length. I haven't had the malleable replaced yet so I can't comment on whether or not I have lossed length.
Age 47. ED for over 20 years. Diagnosed with Hypogonadism. Pills and trimix do not work consistently. Implanted with 24cm AMS CX 12/12/17. Infected implant removed and replaced with AMS Spectra 2/18/18. Implanted with 26CM Titan 10/02/18. So far so good.

I hope to never gain any experience with infection but in talking to Dr. eid he indicates the first signs are usuall changes in the tactile feel of the pump and the pump attaching to the scrotum wall or testicle. He considers the pump the bellwether of the system and it is good to be familiar with the feel of the pump since fever is usually a very late stage symptom of infection.

No. Not had an infection but I had a bull that let his dick hang out in the winter time and got frostbite. Big bull dick turned black and swollen for about 10". Had to call the vet to circumcise him. Does that count?
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

Update @ day 18

So today I called my urologist who was unavailable
So ended up in emergency ward due to concerns for infection
Less detail of pump and feels like it’s in a sack of hard grizzlies fat

No fever or pain or discharge
They did ultrasound scrotom was 2.5mm on left side but 10mm on right side where implant pump is located there was no fluid or pus around the pump so just playing the waiting game till I can see my urologist
The hospital doesn’t believe is an infection as but I’m worried about the pump attached to my left testi and attached by inner skin layers ... can still feel the pump and but just with less detail
31 year old :D tried pills for 5years
Trimix too painful and not spontaneous

Was implanted by dr katelaris on 13/8/18 in Sydney Adventist Hospital
With AMS 700 LGX 21cm & 3cm RTE
Revision failed pump

I was implanted near the end of March 2017. The discomfort never really went away but one day it would be ok and the next a little more. The swelling went down a little but not all the way. Around the 3rd week I wanted to start cycling (that was the plan) but I couldn't find the release button. My doctor was 7 hours away so I had weekly check-up's with a local urologist (who use to be Chief of Urology at Scarborough Grace Hospital in Toronto). If I had questions for Dr. Brock or Dr. Gan (the surgeons - one urologist and one plastic surgeon) I was given their personal email address and I would take close up pictures and email them. Up to week 3, all the doctors said that everything was progressing, a little slower than most people but because I am a type 2 diabetic, they said that is to be expected. During week 3 everything stopped... swelling was not going down anymore, pain was still there and back to where it was in the beginning. One day I would have a fever and the next day I was fine. Dr. Brock was not concerned until my temperature was at or over 104. At the end of week 3 my wife came downstairs in the morning (I am always up no later than 5am) I was in my lazy boy holding up my coffee cup and saying a toast and carrying on a conversation with nobody. She made me call Dr. Wood's office (the local urologist)… his secretary said to come in right away and she would squeeze me in. Dr. Woods told me to call Dr. Brock's office immediately and plan to go to London (Ontario). I called his office and Dr. Brock's secretary said she had nothing for that day but good for 10am the next day. We made the long drive, my wife drove, I was in Dr. Brock's office and within 15 minutes he diagnosed me with Septicemia, I was in septic shock and it was very urgent. I was admitted immediately, the soonest OR he could get was the next morning. He removed the implant(AMS LGX 18+2), washed out all the infection gave me massive doses of antibiotics and kept me in hospital until the next day. I had to wait 6 months to be implanted. On 14 December 2017 I was re-implanted with an AMS LGX 15+2. Yes, I lost length but it is coming back and I am no longer embarrassed to whip it out at the arena at the urinal. I don't care that I lost 3 inches and neither do my wife. It had been so long sine I used a good hard dick I can't even remember to tell you. Dr. Brock is my hero. I just sent him an email to ask why he didn't use a space saver.. I am positive he has a very scientific reason because the man is an international professor of urology. :)

Sorry, yes, 3 cm - from an 18 down to a 15. I asked my doctor why he chose no to put in a place holder for the 6 months without anything. No surprise to me, he answered very quickly.. here is his answer;

I do use malleable implants and there are those who do implant a place holder implant to preserve penile length. It comes at the risk of prolonging the surgery, increased recovery time, risk of increasing the infection and making clearance of the infection more challenging and often these implants are removed shortly after the 2nd surgery for a permanent inflatable. The placement of a foreign body into an infected field is not without additional risks and the actual benefit of length preservation has never been demonstrated to my satisfaction.
Use of a sterile new implant, once the infection is cleared coupled to inflation/deflation cycling - in my opinion is the preferred and safest way to manage an infected implant. I have had cases (albeit, many years ago) where while I was out of town, an infection was treated conservatively and sloughing of penile skin and tissues occurred. This resulted in the need for a major reconstructive procedure to be done subsequently.

I trust this addresses your question adequately. My best estimate would be that if asked directly the majority of experts would choose to do what I did and not place a malleable device for the reasons cited above.

Kind regards,
Gerald Brock

The hospital staff was concerned about my surgeon putting in the malleable immediately after removing the infected three piece. Which is probably why they kept me 5 days. My surgeon says the severity of the infection determines whether or not they put a space holder in. He said there was puss in the scrotum around the pump, but not the rest of the implant. The infectious disease specialist didn't think he should put anything in. My implant was removed 2 months after it was put in and only inflated twice. The whole time I was in the hospital I was given IV antibiotics , which lead to diminished kidney function. But everything returned to normal and they released me. It was a lot to endure. That being said, I can't wait to try again! I have no choice at this point.
