Forum Rules

Postby Hawkman » Sun Oct 07, 2018 9:01 am

Does this forum have a clear list of posted forum rules anywhere or are they arbitrary and made up as we go and applied to only some individuals?

It is a rare forum that does not have a "Readme First" section with clear rules so everyone knows the rules and they are enforced consistently.

I see posts that say no mentioning doctors. Then I see 40 posts from one guy saying "my doctor is "awesome", "Out Standing" with no reprimand.

Is it just certain doctors we cannot mention?

I think we could all follow the rules if we knew what they are. Have I overlooked them?

You can talk about your doctor but not act as an advertising agency or they will get after you. I would suggest you be polite and understand this is a very serious site where we try to help, mention things we have been through. Pictures are allowed (before/after) and how our surgeries went with our doctors both good and bad. Enjoy the site, seek help from others and share your experience as it WILL help those that follow. If you are searching for a doctor, enter there name and all kinds of info will come up from members, read everything about them, watch their videos that some have placed on Youtube and study.

I had surgery March 2, 2016 and very pleased. My first inflate (see photo) was later then some due to internal swelling. Didn't know I had and thank goodness I went back for 1st inflate or it would have been hard and painful. It was my first erection in many many years and a great mental lift. The mental side is very important. If you need anything, feel free to write.

Implanted March 2nd by Dr. Kramer with AMS/LGX. Had a problem lower left (scar tissue) and he placed a larger (thicker) implant as you can here on the YouTube video. Got all back, ED over 10 years before Implant.

What is an example of being allowed to talk about your doctor as opposed to "advertising? I certainly don't know any high volume surgeons that need or want to advertise. It seems like the line is more about who the doctors are rather than what is said.

About this being a "very serious" site, I administer a very serious, established site with 6 moderators that I have appointed to work the site. I would have to say it seems like this is the least serious site I have been on. The moderator curses at members, there are no posted rules, and there is public sniping based on who you are or what technique, implant, or doctor you support. Patients don't have an open free voice unless it supports a bias. I can say the same thing and just switch the names of doctors or implants and how it is received depends on which name I put in the sentence not on what is said. Dozens have posted that sentiment openly and dozens more have done so privately.

well..I'd say if you don't like the site..you can always leave. I mean..to stay and complain isn't productive either.

I'd say advertising for a Doctor would be something like:

" Dr. John Smith is awesome! He's done over 5,000 implants last month. Anyone looking for the best Dr. in the U.S.A, give Dr. SMith a call at 888-888-8000. I just had him do mine...after my last Dr. Botched it, I would NEVER go to another Dr. Other than John Smith."

THAT"S an advertisement.

What they do allow is: I just had my implant surgery last week. After 5 years of E.D. I had Dr. John Smith at the Generic Clinic perform mine. He explained everything well, and his staff was great. I had no problem with the procedure and am healing up nicely. If anyone is in the "Generic Clinic" area..I highly recommend you check out Dr. Smith.

That would not be an advertisement.

I think Flyweed and Dirtman get it completely and explained it perfectly.
There are rules posted in the Introductions page. They are pretty simple - mostly respect. Again, I think most men understand respect and it does not to be lined out about what is permitted or not.

We had a well-known surgeon creating fake profiles on this site and was promoting himself via these fake accounts. Sadly, we had to respond to this by being really careful that it does not happen again. If someone seems to be touting their doctor more than telling their story (and yes, this is highly subjective and difficult to do) we are now going to respond by asking them to tone down the perceived commercial nature of their post. We must make sure we do not appear to be the mouthpiece or commercial for any doctor. This is why do we not allow doctors on here - and yes, we get requests every week and many just sign up. As a 501c3 we cannot allow any commercial entity a voice on this board at all. We cannot allow any commercial entity to use us for their profit.

And finally, it is all about tone. Men who post strident posts will eventually be asked to leave. We give several warnings.
Our purpose is to be a support site, not an information site. There is a huge difference. The goal of Franktalk is to be men telling each other their stories.
Thanks
Paul

Thanks Paul, can you explain I might modify my post to fit these guidelines. Please note I am an actual patient sharing my implant experience w a “diary@ here w photos.

Given Paul’s feedback below, here’s my revision:

Dr Karpman did my implant in Northern California.
Ultimately I would recommend him to a friend, but I do believe it’s important to know many facets of the doc’s techniques and procedures to best align them with your own needs and hopes.

I believe (and at least two medical articles support) that high volume implant docs have better outcomes (less infections, less need for removal and replacement, and larger implants done safely). Dr Karpman is the highest volume doc on the west coast so this is the main reason he aligned w my needs.

I had severe peyronies. Many docs will have an implant only address the curve. Or do implant with “release” of the plaque through incisions only. Dr Karpman recommended total excision and graftingvw implant. This is a lengthy procedure and I believe less profitable given the two hours vs. 30-60 mins of many docs IR tine. Some believe the less OR tine results in fewer infections but I believe it was worth the risk...as slong w the curve I had severe hourglassing which I believe can best be treated w excision and grafting. Additionally he reported only one infection in 13 years. Thus was a key factor in my decision.

He does infrapubic rather than scrotal surgical approach. I am not sure that this maximizes the length or minimizes tubing showing. However, he prefers it because one can go home 70% inflated and cycle after 10 days. I know there is at least one doc who cycles after 4 days w a scrotal approach but most seem to wait for weeks before going so. So, on balance I was in agreement.

Dr K almost exclusively installs AMS products. I had concerns about this as AMS products come in 3 cm increments while coloplast comes in 2 cm-therefore needing 2 to reach the next size vs 3. I consider this a consideration as it seems medical resaearch indicates the fewer the # of RTE’s the steeper the angle of erection. I was willing to sacrifice the angle if size was at least maximized.

He explained if after implant when the plaque was excised-if additional length could be obtained he would add RTE’s. Ultimately he installed 18cm + 3 RTE’s. I would have preferred being upsized to a 21cm e no RTE’s but realized there can’t be many docs willing to take the financial hit of having discarded an implant without reimbursement.

He also prefers general anesthesia. I would have preferred a spinal which Dr Eid believes increases blood flow allowing the maximum measurement for the implant. Given Dr K is a high volume doc, is on my insurance and local I didn’t believe the potential for perhaps 1 more cm would be worth my expense to travel and certainly not to lose my insurance coverage (100% for me).

Well, this is just my thought process. Ultimately the more we know about each doc’s experience and techniques-the better we can match them to our needs.

Well, since you asked. lol.
I do a lot of men's work and we talk all the time about using "I" sentences. Frankly, I'd rather hear about your experience, how you felt, your fears, your triumphs, your anxiety, your happiness, your misery, the highs, the lows. As a person, those mean FAR more to me than the pluses or minuses about why you chose your surgeon.

The first part speaks to me. Why you chose your surgeon does not speak to me so much because I probably don't have the privilege of making those kinds of choices. So, in short, I think most men want to hear about YOU and your journey. Not so much about your surgeon. While choosing the surgeon is part of the journey, it is largely not transferable as far as connection and hope - the real reason we are here. Your diary does that. Your feelings about how to choose a surgeon are totally valid. But listing his credentials or statistics are probably not going to speak to men. Unless, for example, you were stuck until you learned that he had implanted more 5'8" men than another other surgeon.

Does that help?

The choice of a surgeon is one of the most important parts of this surgery. Choose badly and you will be screwed, and as it happened to a lot here you will need a revision and in that moment you will regret not having chosen a good surgeon. That people tell their results with surgeons is a fundamental part and should not be hidden. There is another forum (peyroniesforum) where you can see the experiences of people with different surgeons, and nobody is alarmed by that, on the contrary they appreciate it.

If in this forum you can not talk about your experiences and assess the different surgeons that operate, it will become unusable and will be replaced by others.

Thanks Paul, I’ll rework it explaining what worked for me and why rather than simply adv. vs disadv. As they may be different for others.
