I told friends and family it was a hernia. I told work it was a private urology procedure and left it at that.
It was all good except having to build a huge elaborate web of lies with my mom who asks so many damn questions. I finally told her that it's stressing me out and may cause complications so I don't want to talk about it anymore. I love my mom but jeez louise, give it a rest!

Moms….I hear you. I’ve had a couple of hernia surgeries over the years. I told my 83 year old Mom that i had a recurrence, but elaborated a bit further and said i’d had a “vascular issue” (which is true. Leakage), and that i was having a specialist doing a special procedure to correct it. (which is true).
I live alone in Florida and she’s in Oklahoma. She was insisting to come to Florida to help me recover. God bless her, but she’s so frail and subject to falls i couldn’t fathom her with me for a month. I’d be babysitting her.
But heck. They’re mom’s. professional worriers.
