Yes, wash with the Hibiclens before surgery. Don't trim before the surgery. As I recall, if I had any skin abrasions in my groin area, they would postpone the surgery. They'll shave you during the surgery.
You're going to want plenty to eat and drink since you live alone. My instructions were not to lift over five pounds the first two weeks post surgery, so plan for that. Meaning, you won't be able to lift a gallon of milk or heavy pan.
Buy ice packs, loose-fitting sweatpants, and food and drinks ahead of time. Hopefully they fill any prescriptions for pain meds. I got by on over-the-counter pain meds, so buy those ahead of time, too.
Buy lots of gauze and a couple of jock straps. My doctor left me 60% inflated with instructions to keep my dick pointed towards my belly button. The jock strap keeps your dick pointing up. The gauze is for padding between the jock strap and your dick.
That's all I can think of for now.

Understand the anxiety. As long as your surgeon is one of the good ones you should have nothing to worry about.
Yes, the first two weeks may be uncomfortable. Make sure doc gives you some strong pain meds just in case. Keep up on the pain because if you let it get horrible before taking anything it will take longer to settle down. They say ice packs are good although I never used any. Bags of frozen peas work best. Heat after the third or fourth day may feel better.
Stock up on food, snacks, reading material, games on your phone, whatever it takes to keep from being bored so your mind doesn't focus on any pain/soreness.
One thing that strikes me, you mentioned being alone. You do know the surgery center is going to require you have a driver or they won't let you leave. After anesthesia you can fall asleep suddenly up to 12 hours later.
PM me if you have any other concerns I can help with. Best of luck.
