Since we're being academic and historical, I'll add the psychologist Carl Jung's idea that we all have "race memory," which has nothing to do with the current overused word "race" meaning skin color; it's the idea that we have a collective human-race memory, in our subconsciousness, memories of the 200,000 years of our cave-man days, during which our ancestors sought food and sex. These are our lifelong instincts and we can't change them any more than an animal can change its instincts.
