How long have FT Implants lasted -- over 10 years? Anyone?

One explanation is that implants are not lasting very long.

Another is that the survey is self-selectong. That is, that implantees over 8 years are simply not participating in FrankTalk any more.

Another explanation is that the implantees are expiring before the implants.

Possibly a better way to ask would be to survey those men on FrankTalk who have a second or third implant how long their prior implant lasted and why the revision - implant failure or other cause.

Or, ask surgeons who have done revisions about the replaced implant's history.

Lost Sheep..... Very Good Points... hahaha... implantees expire before implant.... I wish hahaha.
But they don't return to FT is probably the highest probability.
Yes, I probably should have labeled the thread better.....
hmmm.
Thanks for your input.

I think the question of this thread is the most important of them all....
I really think its a huge burden to repeat this surgery every 4-5 years.
Is it just that people who got their implants for a longer time are not commeting in internet forums, because they are happy?

Lost Sheep's comment is spot on - many, if not most, FT members stop participating here within a couple of years of getting their implants.

from what I think there are not a lot of people on FT because Dr.Kramer do 5-6 implant a week so that would be 240 implants a year if he doesn't take a vacation. Also, he's been doing this for a very long time I think 18 years I'm not sure so do the math there are not a lot of complaints that I have heard of. Now if you think about all the doctor together that's a lot of implanted. By the way, I remember your introduction and I feel like I was like you so I did my surgery 5 days ago and I feel very good. On the plus side technology always try to improve everything maybe my implant will last 5 years or 10 years but I believe the next generation of the implant will be even better so i don't worry about that. You got to see the positive if you want a implant.

Youngwithed:
I am looking at the positive, and am still in the market. Probably later this year.
I was just hoping to hear from people as to how long theirs have lasted.
I hope 10 years.. would love longer.
Regardless... non responses will not stop me, unless people start saying only a few years....
Then I may get concerned...

Glad you went for it... must be so awesome!!

I found this quote from Dr. EID on the web....

Mechanical malfunction has occurred in two patients out of our first 1089 prosthesis within the first 5 years. Most will last 8 to 12 years. The more often it is used the more likely it will fail. When the prosthesis malfunctions it is easily replaced. Replacement is much easier and causes much less discomfort. Expect a minimum of 8 years enjoyment from a penile prosthesis without malfunction. Most will get 10 to 15 years and some are now over 18 years into their device.

This is encouraging. I hope it is all true :)

Looks like my AMS 700LGx is now on the failure list. It gave excellent service for 4 years and 7 months. Now working on getting repairs, don't want to be without it. You can see a bunch of my posts from back in 2012 and a recent one now that I have a bit of a problem.

Maybe I won't wear the new out so fast, how much work can a 70 year old give it?

Eid is wrong. Mine didn't last anywhere near the 8 years he claims (and I didn't use it much at all)..... And the replacement was much more difficult/painful than the original....

That's what I was wondering. To me it makes sense that it would be more painful. Heck, they have to pull the old one out!

How are you doing with the replacement unit?
